Highlights

Fast hands beat heavy hits

Doubles at club level is decided at the net and in flat drives, not by who smashes hardest. A head-light racket moves its head faster for the same wrist input - you get the block in, the drive back and the lift away when a head-heavy racket would still be coming round.

Head-light balance

The mass sits back towards the hand, so the head comes round faster with less effort.

Super Slim Shaft

Less frontal area through the swing, which is where a fast racket gets its speed.

Aero Frame

A streamlined head cross-section that cuts drag rather than resisting twist - built for whip, not weight.

4U G5, Hi-Flex

80-84 g unstrung with a flexible shaft: quick to swing and forgiving at club speeds.

About this product

Badminton Racket Silver Sky – in stock at 361 Degrees Adventure in Tanzania.

The Nanoflare 700 Play is Yonex-s entry into the Nanoflare family, and the Nanoflare family is the opposite philosophy to the Astrox one. Where Astrox puts mass at the front to hit harder, Nanoflare takes it out of the front so the racket moves faster.

That matters more than beginners expect. In doubles, most rallies are decided in fast flat exchanges and at the net, where the difference between getting a racket face to the shuttle and not getting there is a few hundredths of a second. A head-light frame gets there. It also lets you take the shuttle earlier and higher, which is worth more than a heavier smash from further back.

The Super Slim Shaft and Aero Frame are both about the same thing: reducing what the racket has to push through the air. A thinner shaft and a streamlined head profile cut drag, and less drag means the same swing produces more head speed. Yonex also list the Sonic Flare System on this Play model, which is genuinely on it rather than borrowed from the flagship.

It is the right racket for a doubles player, for anyone who defends and counter-attacks rather than trying to end rallies from the back, and for anyone who finds a head-heavy racket tiring by the third game – which, in Dar es Salaam heat, is most people.

4U is 80 to 84 g unstrung and G5 is the smallest common grip, so it is light and quick in the hand. A flexible shaft completes the picture: it loads at ordinary club swing speeds instead of demanding an elite arm.

Questions

Good to know

Should I buy head-light or head-heavy?

Head-light if you play doubles, defend, or play fast flat rallies at the net. Head-heavy if you play singles, like to attack from the back and want a heavier smash. Most club doubles players are better served by head-light and buy head-heavy anyway.

What string tension should I ask for?

Lower than you think, and never above the maximum printed on the frame. Club players here are usually best between 22 and 24 lb - lower tension gives a bigger sweet spot and more power for less effort. High tension only pays off if you already generate your own power, and it breaks strings and frames faster in this heat.

Is the Play the same as the Nanoflare 700 Pro?

No. The Play is the entry-level version of the family. It shares the head-light philosophy, the Aero Frame and the Sonic Flare System, but it is a more forgiving frame with a flexible shaft rather than the stiff flagship layup.

What does 4U G5 mean?

4U is the unstrung frame weight: 80 to 84 g. G5 is the grip circumference, the smallest commonly sold. A G5 can be built up with an overgrip if your hands are large - a bigger grip cannot be made smaller.

Does it come strung?

Yonex ship this model strung in some markets. Ask us what the current stock is before ordering so you know whether to budget for stringing.

How often should a racket be restrung?

The old rule is to restring as many times a year as you play per week. Strings also lose tension sitting unused, and heat and humidity here speed that up - a racket strung six months ago has softened whether you played on it or not.

How should I look after a racket in this climate?

Keep it out of a hot car. Heat is what destroys rackets here - it softens the resin in the graphite and cooks the string tension out. Store it in a cover, out of direct sun, and never leave it in a boot all afternoon.

Do you deliver in Dar es Salaam?

Yes. We deliver across Dar es Salaam and ship nationwide to Arusha, Mwanza, Dodoma, Zanzibar and beyond. You can also collect from our shop.
