Highlights

Quick hands, club price

Head-light rackets get the face to the shuttle faster, which is what wins flat exchanges and net battles. The Speed 7 puts that in a full carbon Yonex frame at a price that competes with steel-shafted starter rackets - which is the whole point of the India-built range.

Head-light balance

The mass sits back, so the head comes round faster for the same wrist input.

Sonic Flare System

Yonex-s frame construction for maximum repulsion and shuttle speed.

Isometric head

The squared head shape that widens the sweet spot compared with a traditional oval.

4U G4, Hi-Flex

80-84 g unstrung with a flexible shaft - quick and forgiving at club swing speeds.

Product description

About this product

Yonex Nanoflare Speed – in stock at 361 Degrees Adventure in Tanzania.

The Nanoflare Speed 7 is the head-light counterpart to the Astrox Attack 9 in Yonex-s India-built range, and the choice between them is the choice between speed and weight.

A head-light racket carries its mass back towards the hand, so the head accelerates faster for the same effort. In practice that means you get the block in on a smash, you win the flat drive exchange, and you take the shuttle earlier at the net. In club doubles – which is most of the badminton actually played here – that is worth more than a heavier smash.

The Sonic Flare System is Yonex-s frame construction aimed at repulsion: getting the shuttle off the string bed quickly. Combined with the aero frame profile and a slim shaft, the whole racket is designed around speed rather than mass.

The Isometric head is the piece that matters most to a developing player. Squaring off the head makes the main strings closer to equal in length across the face, which widens the sweet spot substantially compared with a traditional oval. You notice it on the shots you did not hit perfectly, which at club level is most of them.

Like the Attack 9 this is built in India, which is how Yonex reach this price with a genuine carbon frame. Treat the maximum tension seriously: Yonex publish 20 to 27 lb, and the 32 lb figure circulating on some retail sites is not theirs and will damage the frame.

Questions

Good to know

Should I buy this or the Astrox Attack 9?

This one if you play doubles, defend, or play fast flat rallies and net exchanges. The Attack 9 if you want more weight behind the shuttle. For most club doubles players in Tanzania, head-light is the better choice.

Why is the maximum tension 27 lb when some sites say 32?

Because 32 lb is not a Yonex figure - it appears on some Indian marketplace listings and stringing to it will damage the frame. Yonex publish 20-27 lb and that is what to string to.

Does it have Nanomesh Neo or the Rotational Generator System?

No. Those appear on some retailer listings for this racket but Yonex do not list them for it. What Yonex do list is Isometric, the Sonic Flare System, the aero frame, the built-in T-joint and E.B. Cap Plus.

Is a racket made in India a lesser Yonex?

It is a different factory, not a different company. Yonex build in Japan, Taiwan, China and India, and the India-built range is how a genuine carbon Yonex reaches a club price.

What string tension should I ask for?

Lower than you think, and never above the maximum printed on the frame. Club players here are usually best between 22 and 24 lb - lower tension gives a bigger sweet spot and more power for less effort. High tension only pays off if you already generate your own power, and it breaks strings and frames faster in this heat.

What does the grip size G4 or G5 mean?

It is the circumference of the handle. G5 is the smallest commonly sold, G4 one size larger. A grip can always be built up with an overgrip, so if you are between sizes take the smaller one - you cannot shrink a handle that is too big.

How often should a racket be restrung?

The old rule is to restring as many times a year as you play per week. Strings also lose tension sitting unused, and heat and humidity here speed that up - a racket strung six months ago has softened whether you played on it or not.

How should I look after a racket in this climate?

Keep it out of a hot car. Heat is what destroys rackets here - it softens the resin in the graphite and cooks the string tension out. Store it in a cover, out of direct sun, and never leave it in a boot all afternoon.

Do you deliver in Dar es Salaam?

Yes. We deliver across Dar es Salaam and ship nationwide to Arusha, Mwanza, Dodoma, Zanzibar and beyond. You can also collect from our shop.
