This is a replacement badminton net. It is the part of a court setup that wears out – the posts, bases and cords will outlast several nets.
What matters most when you fit one is height, because badminton height is specific and slightly counter-intuitive. The top of the net sits at 1.524 metres at the centre and 1.55 metres at the posts. The net is higher at the ends and lower in the middle, by design. Almost every net set up by eye ends up sagging low in the centre, which makes every net shot easier and every drive down the middle safer than it should be – and players who learn on a sagging net find real courts hard.
Tension the top cord properly. The cord along the top edge is what carries the load and holds the height; the mesh below it should hang without pulling. A net strung tight through the mesh instead of the cord distorts and tears within a season.
A badminton court is 6.1 metres wide for doubles, and the net spans the full width whether you are playing singles or doubles – the singles lines are inside the court, not a narrower net.
In this climate, take it down when you are not using it if it lives outdoors. Sun is what destroys a net here: UV makes the mesh brittle over a season and the tape along the top goes chalky and splits. A net brought in between sessions lasts years rather than months.
