About this product
Yonex Muscle Power – in stock at 361 Degrees Adventure in Dar es Salaam.
The Muscle Power 2 is a recreational Yonex: an aluminium head on a steel shaft, extra stiff, 10 mm longer than a standard racket, and built around Yonex-s Muscle Power frame.
That frame is a real idea rather than a name. On an ordinary racket the strings are threaded through drilled holes and bear against the edges of the grommets. Under load they rub, which wastes energy and wears the string exactly where you cannot see it. The Muscle Power frame seats the strings in a continuous grooved channel so they rest on a smooth surface. Less friction means more of the energy comes back out into the shuttle, and strings last longer.
The extra 10 mm of length gives a little more reach and a little more leverage on a clear, which is worth having for a recreational player who cannot always get behind the shuttle.
The single most important thing to know about this racket is its string tension: Yonex publish 16 to 20 lb, which is low, and it is low for a reason. A steel-shafted aluminium frame strung to the 24 lb a carbon racket would take will distort and can fail. If you take it to a stringer, tell them the maximum.
Like the GR 303i, it is a durable recreational racket rather than a performance one. Extra stiff and heavy, it survives what beginners do to rackets. Anyone playing weekly will want a carbon frame within a season.
