Super Grap is Yonex-s overgrip and has been since 1987. It is the most widely used overgrip in badminton by a very long way.

An overgrip goes on over the grip already on the racket. It is thin – 0.6 mm – so it barely changes the handle diameter, and it costs little enough to change every few sessions. That is the whole model: the grip surface is a consumable, and replacing it is how a racket keeps feeling right.

Super Grap-s character is tackiness rather than absorbency. It grips the hand rather than soaking up sweat. Which of those you want is personal and climatic – in Dar es Salaam humidity, a tacky grip stays grippy while your hand is damp but eventually goes slick, and an absorbent grip takes the moisture up until it is saturated. Many players here use tacky and simply change it more often.

Wrapping one is a two-minute job: start at the butt with the tapered end, work upwards with about a third of the width overlapping each turn, keep steady tension throughout, and finish with the tape supplied. Keep the overlap even and the handle stays even.

It is also the standard way to change your grip size. Each wrap adds roughly half a size, so buying a G5 racket and building it up is the flexible approach – a handle can be made bigger but never smaller.

How many wraps are in the pack?

The AC102C code is sold by different retailers as both a 3-wrap and a 30-wrap pack, and Yonex produce single, 3, 12, 30 and 60 packs of Super Grap. Ask us what the current stock is before ordering so you get the quantity you expect.

Overgrip or replacement grip - which is this?

An overgrip. It goes on over the grip already on the racket, adding a thin tacky layer. A replacement grip is thicker and goes on instead of the original. Overgrips are what almost everyone uses, because they are cheap, quick to change and let you build the handle up a size.

How do I wrap one?

Start at the butt end with the tapered end of the tape, wrap upwards with about a third of the width overlapping each turn, keep it under steady tension all the way, and finish with the supplied tape. Do not stretch it hard at the end or it will unwind.

How often should I change it?

When it stops being tacky or starts feeling slick with sweat. In this climate that is far sooner than in cooler places - many players here change one every few sessions. It is the cheapest thing you can do to improve your grip on the racket.

Can I use it to make my grip bigger?

Yes, and that is the usual way. Each wrap adds roughly half a grip size. Buy a G5 racket and build it up with one or two overgrips if you have large hands - you cannot make a big handle smaller.

Does it work for tennis and squash too?

Yes. The same overgrip is used across badminton, tennis and squash, and Super Grap is one of the most widely used overgrips in all three.

Why does my grip go slippery so fast here?

Humidity. Sweat has nowhere to evaporate to, so it sits on the surface. An absorbent overgrip helps, changing it often helps more, and a towel by the court helps most. Some players carry a second racket purely so they can swap when the grip is soaked.

Should I keep spares?

Yes. Overgrips are inexpensive, they take no room, and a soaked grip mid-match is the sort of thing that quietly costs you points.
