About this product

Most cooler boxes fail at the lid. Warm air finds the gap, ice turns to water by lunchtime, and the box gets blamed for poor insulation. This one uses a silicone seal around the lid and a front buckle that pulls it down tight, which is where the hours come from.

At 45 litres it is a group-sized box, so it is built to be moved on wheels with a trolley handle, and it has a drain outlet in the base so melt water goes out without the box being lifted.

Good to know

Where do these figures come from?

The figures on this page are the supplier's rather than an independently tested manufacturer specification, and the table marks them as such. If a number matters to your decision, ask us and we will check the unit in the shop before you buy.

How long will ice last in it?

The supplier does not publish an hours figure and we will not invent one. Pre-chill the box, fill it full, use block ice and keep it in the shade, and you can expect it to hold through a hot day and overnight.

How heavy is it loaded?

A full 45 litre cooler is over 40 kg with ice and drinks. The wheels are the reason this size is practical.

Does the drain plug leak in transit?

Check it is screwed down before you set off. A plug left half open is the commonest cause of a wet boot.

Can I sit on the lid?

Treat the lid as a lid unless the supplier states it is load bearing. This one does not.

How do I stop it smelling?

Wash it out with warm water and bicarbonate of soda after every trip, dry it fully, and store it with the lid ajar.

Can I use dry ice?

No. Dry ice is far colder than the plastic is rated for and can crack the liner.

Will it fit in a car boot?

A 45 litre box is substantial. Measure your boot before you buy, particularly if you also need to fit luggage.
