About this product

At a campsite the water source is rarely where the tent is. This jug is the answer: fill it once at the tap, carry it back by the handle, and then draw water from the tap on the front rather than lifting and tipping ten kilograms every time someone wants to wash their hands.

It is food-grade PE, collapses flat when empty, and comes in 5, 10 and 15 litre sizes. Naturehike rates the empty weights at 138 g, 220 g and 290 g respectively.

Good to know

Which size should I choose?

Ten litres is the usual answer for two or three people camping. Fifteen is heavy to carry any distance at 15 kg full. Five is the one for a day trip or for keeping in a car.

Does the water taste of plastic?

Rinse it two or three times before first use and the taste goes. Any new PE container tastes of itself at first.

Can I put hot water in it?

No. It is rated for cold and cool water. Hot water will soften the walls and can distort the tap seat.

Will it stand up full?

Yes, on a flat surface. On uneven ground put it on a box or a table so the tap has room underneath for a cup.

How do I clean it?

Warm water with a little bicarbonate of soda, swill and rinse well, then dry it with the cap off. Do not use bleach, which lingers in PE.

How do I store it?

Bone dry, folded, out of direct sun. Sunlight is what degrades PE over time, more than use does.

What if the tap drips?

Check the washer is seated and the tap is screwed down squarely. Most drips are grit caught in the seat after a trip.
