About this product

Twenty-five litres is the size where a water container stops being a camping accessory and becomes household infrastructure. It covers a group camp for a weekend, a fishing trip, a site with no plumbing, or a home in Dar through a few days of interrupted supply.

It is rigid moulded polyethylene, opaque green, shaped to be carried and to stand square on a table or a tailgate.

Where do these figures come from?

How heavy is it full?

About 25 kg. That is a proper two-hand lift and awkward for one person over any distance. Fill it where it will stand.

Is the water safe to drink after storage?

Only if the container was clean, the water was safe to begin with, and it has been kept in the shade. For drinking water, refresh it weekly and keep the cap on.

Can I put hot water in it?

No. Polyethylene is for cold and cool water.

How do I clean it before first use?

Rinse it two or three times with clean water. If it has been standing, a little bicarbonate of soda and a good swill will clear any taste. Avoid bleach, which lingers in PE.

Why does the colour matter?

Light is what lets algae grow in stored water. An opaque container keeps water fresher for longer than a translucent one.

Does it have a tap?

Not as standard on this model. If you want to draw water without lifting, the Naturehike containers with a built-in tap are the ones to look at.

How should I store it empty?

Dry, with the cap loose so it can breathe, out of direct sun. Sunlight is what ages PE.
