About this product

A bottle means stopping, taking off the pack, drinking, and putting it back. Most people simply do not bother, and then they finish a walk dehydrated. A bladder removes that decision: the reservoir sits flat against your back inside the pack and the tube clips at your shoulder, so you sip constantly without thinking about it.

This is a 3-litre reservoir with a drinking tube and bite valve, sized to fit the hydration sleeve of a standard rucksack or trekking pack.

Which pack does it fit?

Most rucksacks and trekking packs with a hydration sleeve and a tube port at the shoulder. Bring your pack in and we will check the reservoir sits flat and the tube reaches.

How do I clean it?

Rinse immediately after every use with warm water, then hang it upside down with the opening propped wide so the inside dries completely. A bladder put away damp in Dar will grow mould inside a week, and once it does it is very hard to recover.

Can I put juice or a sports drink in it?

You can, but sugar in a bladder and a tube is what causes most of them to spoil. If you do, rinse and dry it the same day without fail.

How do I keep the water cool?

Fill it half full and freeze it overnight, then top it up before you leave. Against your back it stays cool for hours, and the frozen block is worth more than a cold start.

Will the tube hold water after drinking?

Yes, and in strong sun that water gets hot. Blow back into the tube after each sip to push the water into the reservoir.

How much does 3 litres weigh?

About 3 kg. On a long walk in Tanzanian heat that is weight worth carrying, but part-fill it for shorter outings.

What if the bite valve leaks?

Most have a lock or a cover. Check it is closed before the bladder goes in the pack, since a slow leak soaks everything you are carrying.
