The black outer layer does the work. Fill the bag, lay it out where the sun hits, and after about three hours the water is 40 to 50 C, which is a genuinely warm shower rather than a tolerable one. In Tanzanian sun it gets there reliably.

Twenty litres is enough for two or three people to wash properly. The push-switch valve on the shower head lets you stop the flow while soaping, and at 1.7 litres a minute the bag lasts far longer than the numbers suggest if you use it.

It hangs from the supplied three-metre rope, so a tree, a roof rack or a beam all work. Empty it weighs 420 grams and packs down to almost nothing.

How hot does it really get?

Forty to fifty degrees after around three hours in direct sun, which is warm shower temperature. Lay it flat with the black side up and nothing shading it. In full Tanzanian midday sun it can get to the top of that range faster, and 50 C is hot enough to want to mix or wait, so check before you stand under it.

How long does 20 litres last?

At 1.7 litres a minute, about twelve minutes of continuous flow. Used properly, with the valve shut while you soap, that is two or three people washed. The push-switch is the difference between one shower and three.

What do I hang it from?

Anything that will take a full bag, which is 20 kg. A branch, a roof rack, a beam, a door frame. The three-metre rope is supplied. Check what you are hanging it from can take the weight before you fill it, not after.

How do I fill it?

Through the rigid fill tube, from a tap, a jerry can or a bucket. The tube stops the opening collapsing while you pour, which is the usual annoyance with shower bags.

How does it compare to your other camping showers?

This is the simplest and the only one that gives warm water. It has no pump, so the pressure is whatever gravity gives from head height, which is gentler than the pumped units. The foot-pump shower gives more pressure but cold water; the vehicle-mounted one gives far more pressure and unlimited capacity but needs charging.

How do I look after it?

Empty it fully and let it dry before packing, because water left in a warm bag grows algae quickly and is very hard to get out. Store it loosely rather than tightly folded, since EVA film cracks along permanent creases. Keep it out of the sun when empty.
