The screw collar is the point.
A plain spring clip can be nudged open by a strap or a branch, and whatever was on it is gone. Threading the collar down over the gate stops that. For anything you would be annoyed to lose — keys, a head torch, a camera strap, a dry bag on a boat — that half turn is worth the trouble.
Aluminium alloy keeps it light and stops it rusting in coastal air.
Important: this is a gear clip, not climbing equipment. Real climbing carabiners carry a CE and UIAA certification mark and a kN rating stamped into the spine, are individually batch tested, and cost many times this. This one has none of that, and we will not sell it as something it is not. Use it for hanging and securing kit. Never use it to hold a person, in a climbing system, or for a hammock or anything overhead where a failure would drop a load onto somebody.
