Highlights

Reflective, so nobody trips over it at night

Two reflective strands woven into the cord light up under a torch or headlamp. The cheapest way to stop a guy line taking somebody down in the dark.

Two reflective strands

Catch the light from a headlamp or vehicle beam, so guy lines are visible at night instead of invisible tripwires.

260 kg rated core

A premium nylon inner core, strong enough to hold a tent or tarp through a squall on the coast.

Aluminium tensioners included

Adjust tension by sliding the tensioner instead of untying and retying knots in the dark.

Ten metres, 4 mm

Enough to re-line a whole tent or rig a tarp, cut to whatever lengths the pitch needs.

Product description

About this product

The guy lines that come with most tents are an afterthought – thin, pale, and invisible after dark. Replacing them is one of the cheapest upgrades you can make to a tent, and this is the cord to do it with: 10 m of 4 mm line with a premium nylon inner core rated to 260 kg.

The feature that matters most is the two reflective strands woven through the braid. Under a headlamp, a torch, or vehicle headlights coming into a camp site, the whole line lights up. Anyone who has walked into a guy line in the dark – or watched someone else do it and take the tent corner with them – knows exactly why that is worth having.

Aluminium adjuster tensioners come with it, and they change how you pitch. Instead of tying and retying a taut-line hitch in the dark, you slide the tensioner and the line holds. When the wind gets up at two in the morning and everything needs tightening, that is the difference between a two-minute job and getting properly awake.

Ten metres cuts into enough lengths to re-line a small tent completely, or to rig a tarp with lines to spare. It suits camping anywhere in Tanzania – coastal wind at Kigamboni and Bagamoyo, exposed pitches in the Serengeti, or wet ground in the Southern Highlands where guy lines take more strain than people expect. It comes in army green.

Questions

Good to know

How many guy lines will 10 m make?

Typically six to eight useful lengths for a small to medium tent, depending on how long you cut them. Most tent guy lines are between one and two metres.

Do the reflective strands need charging like glow-in-the-dark?

No. They reflect light rather than storing it, so they work the moment a headlamp or a vehicle beam falls on them, all night, indefinitely.

How do the aluminium tensioners work?

The line runs through two holes in the tensioner and grips by friction. Slide the tensioner along the line to tighten or loosen, with no knots to tie or untie.

Will 4 mm hold a tent in coastal wind?

Yes. With a 260 kg rated core this is stronger than the line supplied with most tents. What usually fails in wind is the peg, not the cord - use good pegs and bury them properly.

How do I stop the cut ends fraying?

Melt the cut end briefly with a lighter and roll it while it is soft. Nylon seals cleanly and the end will never fray.

Can I use it for climbing or towing?

No. This is camp cord for tents, tarps and gear. It is not climbing rope, rigging line or a tow strap, and it must never be used for anything that would put a person's weight on it.

Does it work with any tent?

Yes - it is general-purpose guy line for tents, tarps, canopies and shelters of any brand. Bring your tent in and we will show you how much you need.

Where do these figures come from?

The load rating and measurements on this page come from the supplier's own documentation rather than an independently tested manufacturer specification, and the table marks them as such. Treat the load figure as a guide and never rely on any guy line for anything involving people.
