Yonex Aerobite Boost Hybrid Badminton String - 0.72 mm Mains / 0.61 mm Crosses

Strings & Grips

A hybrid set: thick 0.72 mm mains with Vectran, and very thin 0.61 mm crosses. The thin crosses bite into the shuttle for spin and control; the thick mains survive the sawing that would destroy a thin string.

Highlights

Two different strings, two different jobs

In a normal racket the mains and crosses are the same string and the thin ones cut each other apart. A hybrid uses a thick, tough main and a thin, grippy cross - the cross does the biting and the main does the surviving. That is how you get spin without breaking a string a week.

0.72 mm mains

Thick and reinforced with Vectran fibre, so they resist the sawing that kills thin strings.

0.61 mm crosses

Very thin, so they dig into the shuttle skirt and grip it - which is where slice and spin come from.

Vectran in the mains

A high-tenacity fibre used for strength and dimensional stability, so the mains hold tension.

Two lengths in the set

5.5 m of mains and 5.0 m of crosses, cut for the job each one does.

About this product

Boost Hybrid Badminton String – in stock at 361 Degrees Adventure in Tanzania.

The Aerobite Boost is a hybrid string set, which means the mains and the crosses are two different strings rather than one string threaded both ways.

The reason to do that is spin. To slice a shuttle – for a cross-court net shot, a sliced drop, a deceptive reverse slice – the string has to grip the shuttle skirt for an instant while the racket face moves across it. A thin string digs into the skirt and grips; a thick one slides. So you want thin crosses, because it is the crosses the shuttle meets first on most slicing shots.

The problem with thin string is that it destroys itself. Mains and crosses saw against each other at every crossing, and a 0.61 mm string threaded both ways is gone in weeks. The hybrid answer is to put the thin string only where it does its work and use a thick, tough string for the mains it rubs against. Here the mains are 0.72 mm and reinforced with Vectran, a high-tenacity fibre that holds tension and resists abrasion.

The result is a string bed that grips like a thin string and lasts like a thick one. It suits players who play a deceptive, slicing game – drops, cross-court net shots, sliced clears – rather than pure power hitters, who will be better served by a straightforward thick string like the Exbolt 68.

Tell your stringer it is a hybrid set. The mains and crosses are different lengths and must not be swapped – 5.5 m for the mains and 5.0 m for the crosses, and putting them in the wrong way round wastes the set.

Questions

Good to know

What is a hybrid string and why use one?

A hybrid uses two different strings - one for the mains and one for the crosses. Here the thin crosses grip the shuttle for spin and the thick mains resist the sawing that would otherwise destroy them. You get the bite of a thin string with far more life.

Who is it for?

Players who slice and deceive - cross-court net shots, sliced drops, reverse slices. If your game is straightforward power hitting, a single thick string like the Exbolt 68 will serve you better and cost less.

Which strand is the main and which is the cross?

The thick 0.72 mm strand is the main and the thin 0.61 mm strand is the cross. They are also different lengths in the set - 5.5 m mains, 5.0 m crosses. Tell your stringer, because getting them the wrong way round wastes the set.

Will it last longer than a normal thin string?

Considerably, yes - that is the whole point. The thin string only appears as crosses, and it bears against thick, abrasion-resistant mains rather than against other thin strings.

What is Vectran?

A high-tenacity liquid-crystal polymer fibre, used here inside the mains for strength and dimensional stability. In practice it means the mains hold their tension and resist wearing through.

What tension should I use?

Follow the racket-s published maximum, not the string. For most club players here 22 to 24 lb is the sensible window. Heat in Dar es Salaam bleeds tension out faster than in cooler climates.

Can you string my racket with it?

Yes. Tell us the racket and the tension and we will arrange it. Mention that it is a hybrid set so the stringer threads the two strands correctly.

Do you deliver in Dar es Salaam?

Yes. We deliver across Dar es Salaam and ship nationwide to Arusha, Mwanza, Dodoma, Zanzibar and beyond. You can also collect from our shop.
