About this product

A throw tent: take it out of the round bag, throw it, and it erects itself. Two people, about three minutes including pegs.

There is no pole to thread and no frame to push out. The poles are sewn into the tent under tension, so releasing it from its bag is what pitches it. Bestway rate the whole job at three minutes, and most of that is pegging out and running the guy ropes rather than the tent itself.

Pitched it is 235 x 145 cm with a metre of height at the peak, which is sleeping and sitting space for two adults with room for bags at the foot. The flysheet is PE-coated 190T polyester rated to a 2,000 mm water column with sealed seams, over a 120 g/m2 polyethylene groundsheet, and the poles are 6 mm fibreglass.

It is a single-layer tent and that is a deliberate choice: without an inner skin trapping air, it breathes better in heat. Two side windows in insect mesh move air through, and there are two inner pockets for a phone, torch and keys.

The fabric is fire retardant, and at roughly 1.95 kg it is light enough to carry a reasonable distance.

Good to know

Is this a dome tent?

No, and the earlier description on this page said otherwise. Bestway sell it as a throw tent: the poles are sewn into the fabric under tension and it erects itself when released from the bag. Bestway do make a separate Cool Dome range, which is a different product with conventional poles.

Does it really fit two?

Two adults on the 235 x 145 cm floor with bags at the foot end. It is a sleeping shelter rather than a tent you live in, with 100 cm of height for sitting up but not kneeling fully upright.

How do I fold it back into the bag?

This is the part worth practising once at home. Collapse the frame, fold the tent in half so the two sides meet, then twist the top down and over itself so it drops into overlapping rings and lies flat in its round bag.

Will it keep the rain out?

The flysheet is PE-coated 190T polyester rated 2,000 mm with sealed seams, over a 120 g/m2 PE groundsheet. That handles ordinary rain. It is a single-layer tent, so avoid pressing bedding against the walls, where contact lets damp through.

Is it single layer or double?

Single layer, deliberately. Bestway build it that way for airflow, which suits hot weather: there is no inner tent trapping heat. The trade is more condensation on a cold night than a double-wall tent would give.

How do I look after it?

Shake the sand out of the zip tracks before folding, which is what kills beach tents. Dry it fully before packing. Sponge with mild soap and cool water, never a machine wash.
