Highlights

Change the colour, keep the beam

Coated glass rather than tinted plastic, so you lose as little light as possible.

Mineral-coated glass

Double-sided coating for high light transmittance and real heat resistance, unlike a tinted plastic cap.

Rubber frame

Flexible and impact resistant, so it grips a 40 mm head and survives being dropped.

Red keeps night vision

Red light lets your eyes stay adapted to the dark; green is the usual choice for spotting game.

Doubles as a bezel guard

With the lens removed the frame protects the head of the light in a bag.

Product description

About this product

A colour filter does something a coloured LED cannot: it keeps the full optical system of the light and simply changes what comes out of it. Red preserves your own night vision and disturbs animals and sleeping people far less than white. Green is the traditional choice for spotting game and carries well over distance. Blue lifts contrast on certain surfaces and is used for tracking fluids.

This is the 40 mm size, available as NFR40, NFG40, NFB40 and NFD40. The lens is mineral-coated glass on both faces, which transmits far more light than a plastic filter and tolerates the heat coming off a high-output head. The frame is rubber, so it stretches on, grips, and takes a knock. A small lanyard hole is provided, and with the glass removed the frame works as a bezel protector.

Fitment

This size fits the MH25, MH27, EA41 and SRT7, and any other flashlight with a 40 mm head. Measure the outside diameter of your light’s head before ordering, or bring the light to the shop and we will fit it for you.

Questions

Good to know

Will it fit my flashlight?

It fits a 40 mm head. On Nitecore lights that means the MH25, MH27, EA41 and SRT7. Measure across the outside of your light's head with a ruler, or bring the light in and we will try it on the counter.

Which colour should I choose?

Red preserves your night vision and is the least disturbing at a campsite or in a hide. Green carries further and is the traditional choice for spotting. Blue is used for contrast and for tracking fluids. If you are buying one, most people choose red.

How much light does a filter cost me?

A noticeable amount, and that is unavoidable: you are removing every wavelength except one. That is why the glass is coated, to keep the loss as low as possible. A tinted plastic cap loses far more and melts under a hot bezel.

Can I leave it on all the time?

Yes, and many people do on a hunting or camping light. Take it off for maximum white output.

Is it safe on a high-output light?

The mineral-coated glass is heat resistant, which is precisely why it is glass rather than plastic. On very high output lights, still avoid running turbo for long with anything covering the lens.

Does it come with the colour I want?

Colours available in this size are red, green, blue and a white diffuser. Tell us which one you need when you order and we will confirm what is in stock.

How do I clean it?

A lens cloth and, if needed, a drop of water. Do not use solvents, and do not wipe grit across it dry.
