Highlights

The family that is about placement

Astrox hits hard, Nanoflare moves fast, Arcsaber puts the shuttle where you aimed. An even-balanced box frame holds its line on contact instead of twisting, which is what turns a good intention into a good drop shot.

Even balance

Neither head-heavy nor head-light. The most neutral, predictable feel and the easiest to control.

Box frame

A squared cross-section that resists twisting on contact, so off-centre hits still go where you aimed.

Control-Assist Bumper with T-Anchor

Yonex-s reinforcement at the frame top and the shaft joint, for a more stable head.

4U G5, medium flex

80-84 g unstrung with a medium shaft - the most widely usable specification there is.

Product description

About this product

Yonex Arcsaber 11 Play – in stock at 361 Degrees Adventure in Dar es Salaam.

The Arcsaber 11 Play is the entry-level racket in Yonex-s control family, and control is a genuinely different design goal from power or speed.

The mechanism is the frame cross-section. A box-shaped frame is less aerodynamic than a rounded one, so it is slightly slower through the air – but it is far stiffer in torsion, which means it twists less when the shuttle lands off-centre. Less twist means the shuttle leaves where you aimed rather than a few degrees off it. Every drop shot, net shot and clipped cross-court relies on that.

Even balance is the other half. A neutral racket feels the same whichever shot you are playing, so there is no adjustment between a lift from the back and a tap at the net. It is the least demanding balance to play with, which is exactly why it is the one to develop on.

Be clear about what the Play is: Yonex-s entry into the family, not a cheaper version of the Arcsaber 11 Pro. It carries Isometric, the Control-Assist Bumper with T-Anchor, a box frame and a slim shaft. It does not carry the flagship-s layup or its stiff shaft, and it is a more forgiving racket for it.

At 4U (80-84 g unstrung) with a medium shaft and a maximum tension of 27 lb, it is the most generally usable specification in the range – which is why it is the racket to buy if you are not sure whether you are an attacker or a defender yet.

Questions

Good to know

What is the difference between Arcsaber, Astrox and Nanoflare?

They are three design philosophies. Astrox is head-heavy for power. Nanoflare is head-light for racket speed. Arcsaber is even-balanced for control and placement. If you are not yet sure which sort of player you are, Arcsaber is the safe choice.

Is the Play the same as the Arcsaber 11 Pro?

No, and it is worth being clear about it. The Play is the entry model in the family. It has Isometric, the Control-Assist Bumper, a box frame and a slim shaft - it does not have the Pro-s flagship construction or stiff shaft. For a club player that is an advantage, not a compromise.

Why does a box frame improve control?

Because it twists less. When the shuttle hits off-centre, an aerodynamic round frame deflects more and sends the shuttle off line. A squared box section resists that twist, so the shuttle leaves closer to where you aimed. You pay for it with a fraction less racket speed.

What string tension should I ask for?

Lower than you think, and never above the maximum printed on the frame. Club players here are usually best between 22 and 24 lb - lower tension gives a bigger sweet spot and more power for less effort. High tension only pays off if you already generate your own power, and it breaks strings and frames faster in this heat.

What does the grip size G4 or G5 mean?

It is the circumference of the handle. G5 is the smallest commonly sold, G4 one size larger. A grip can always be built up with an overgrip, so if you are between sizes take the smaller one - you cannot shrink a handle that is too big.

Does it come strung?

It depends on the market - Yonex ship this one strung in some regions and as a bare frame in others. Ask us what the current stock is so you know whether stringing needs budgeting for.

How often should a racket be restrung?

The old rule is to restring as many times a year as you play per week. Strings also lose tension sitting unused, and heat and humidity here speed that up - a racket strung six months ago has softened whether you played on it or not.

How should I look after a racket in this climate?

Keep it out of a hot car. Heat is what destroys rackets here - it softens the resin in the graphite and cooks the string tension out. Store it in a cover, out of direct sun, and never leave it in a boot all afternoon.

Do you deliver in Dar es Salaam?

Yes. We deliver across Dar es Salaam and ship nationwide to Arusha, Mwanza, Dodoma, Zanzibar and beyond. You can also collect from our shop.
