About this product
Seaclear Flowtech Snorkeling Mask – in stock at 361 Degrees Adventure in Tanzania.
The Flowtech is Bestway-s full-face snorkelling mask: one curved lens across the whole face, a silicone rim that seals around the edge, and the snorkel built into the top of the mask rather than clipped to the side. You breathe through your nose and mouth exactly as you do on land.
The Dual Air Flow system is what stops it fogging. Two separate channels run through the snorkel – fresh air comes down one side and across the inside of the lens, and your warm exhaled breath goes out the other. Because the two never mix, the lens stays clear. On a cheap full-face mask without separated channels, your own breath condenses on the lens within minutes and the snorkel refills with the air you just breathed out.
Dry Top handles the surface. A small float sits in the top of the tube; when a wave washes over it or you duck your head below the surface, the float rises and seals the opening. Water does not come down the tube. It is what makes a full-face mask usable in the light chop you get off Bongoyo or Mbudya on a breezy afternoon.
One thing to be clear about: a full-face mask is for snorkelling on the surface. It is not built for diving down. Hold your breath and duck to the bottom and you cannot equalise the whole air space against pressure, and you cannot clear the mask underwater the way you can a conventional one. If you want to dive down to the reef, use a separate mask and snorkel. For floating on the surface and looking down, which is what most people actually want, the full-face design is more comfortable by a long way.
Fit is everything on a full-face mask – it only seals if it matches your face. This is the S/M size, for adults measuring less than 12 cm (4.5 in) from the bridge of the nose to the point of the chin. Measure before you buy: a mask a size out will leak no matter how tight you pull the straps.
