Synthetic fibre absorbs several times its own weight, then wrings out to almost dry – which is what makes it useful in this climate. Cotton of this size holds water for most of a day, and in Dar es Salaam humidity that means a folded damp cloth in a bag turns sour overnight. This one hangs on a bag strap and is dry within the hour.
The anti-UV finish means it also works as neck cover. Folded over the back of the neck on a long walk, a fishing trip or an open boat, it is the difference between a good day and a burnt neck.
