Highlights

Half a tonne, in a bag

500 kg of capacity and 148 cm of beam, from a boat that deflates and goes in the back of a vehicle.

Rated to 500 kg

Four adults plus a cool box, tackle and a day's supplies. There is very little else that carries this much and packs away.

148 cm beam

Nearly a metre and a half across, which is what makes it steady enough to move around in and to fish from properly.

Three-layer TriTech

A woven core laminated between two PVC layers with an antimicrobial treatment, built for a boat that lives damp in heat.

Motor-ready

Eyelets for a motor mount, up to the power limit in the specifications, so a small outboard can be added later.

Product description

About this product

Inflatable Kayak 4 Person – in stock at 361 Degrees Adventure in Dar es Salaam.

The difference between a raft and a kayak is what you do with your arms. In a kayak you sit low with your legs out in front and swing a double-bladed paddle. In a raft you sit up on a bench, face backwards, and row with a pair of oars in oarlocks – which is slower, but far less tiring over a long afternoon, and far easier if you have never done it before.

That is what this boat is. It is a rowed inflatable raft with high side tubes, bench seats, an inflatable floor and oarlocks moulded into the tubes. For fishing it is the better shape by a wide margin: you can face the water, stand up briefly, put a cool box in the middle, and leave rods in the built-in holders without everything sliding into your lap.

The material is Bestway’s three-layer TriTech, which is a step up from the single-layer fabric on their entry boats – a woven core between two layers of PVC, with an Ultra-Fresh antimicrobial treatment that matters when a boat spends its life damp in a hot climate. Three independent air chambers mean a puncture in one leaves the others holding the boat up.

There are eyelets for a motor mount, so a small outboard can be fitted later – the bracket and the motor are not included, and the power limit is specified below. It suits the creeks and bays around Dar es Salaam, the Rufiji delta, Lake Victoria and Lake Tanganyika, and sheltered water off Bagamoyo and Kigamboni. Wear buoyancy aids and treat offshore wind as the main hazard.

Buying a Inflatable Kayak 4 Person in Dar es Salaam

361 Degrees Adventure keeps the inflatable kayak 4 person at our showroom in Upanga, Dar es Salaam, with delivery countrywide across Tanzania. Come and handle it before you buy, or order online and collect.

Every inflatable kayak 4 person is checked in store before it leaves us, and our staff use the same kit in the field, so you get an honest answer on fit and sizing rather than a sales pitch.

Not sure which inflatable kayak 4 person suits you? Call or message the showroom and we will talk you through the options that are actually in stock in Tanzania.

Spare parts and replacements for the inflatable kayak 4 person are easier to get here than on an overseas order, which matters once the gear is in use.

Questions

Good to know

Is this a kayak or a raft?

A raft. You sit up on a bench and row with two oars in oarlocks. It is not paddled with a kayak paddle. For a kayak, look at our Rapid or Cove Champion models.

How does it compare with the X3?

The X4 is 25 cm longer, 18 cm wider and carries 100 kg more - 500 kg against 400 kg - with three seat cushions instead of two and a 3 hp motor limit instead of 2 hp. Take the X4 if you regularly go out four-up or carry a lot of kit.

Can I fit an outboard motor?

There are eyelets for a motor mount, rated to a maximum of 3 hp. The mount and motor are both separate - tell us what you have in mind and we will advise.

What does 500 kg mean in practice?

Four adults of average build plus around 200 kg of gear. Spread the load rather than piling it at one end, which is what makes any inflatable feel unstable.

Is it safe on the sea here?

In sheltered bays and creeks in calm conditions, with buoyancy aids for everyone aboard. It is a recreational raft, not an offshore boat. Stay inside the reef and treat offshore wind as the main hazard.

How long does it take to inflate?

Fifteen to twenty minutes with the hand pump for the chambers and the floor. Inflate firm rather than rock hard, and let air out if it will stand in full sun.

How do I look after it in salt water?

Rinse the whole boat with fresh water after every sea trip, including the valves and the underside, and let it dry completely before rolling it up. Salt left to dry in the seams is what ages an inflatable fastest on this coast.

Can I leave it inflated in the sun?

Not for long. Equatorial sun degrades the material over time and raises the internal pressure, which stresses the seams. Let some air out if it is standing in full sun, and store it deflated, dry and out of direct light.
