Goggles are simple and they fail in predictable ways. The gasket goes hard and stops sealing, the anti-fog coating wears off, or the strap perishes. All three come down to materials, which is why silicone is worth insisting on: it stays soft for years where cheap rubber and PVC go stiff and start leaking within a season, particularly in chlorine.
These use a silicone gasket and a silicone strap, with polycarbonate lenses carrying an anti-fog coating. Polycarbonate is the standard lens material for good reason – it is optically clear and it will not shatter.
Getting a seal is about fit rather than tightness, which surprises people. Press the goggles onto your eye sockets without the strap: if they hold for a second or two by suction alone, the shape fits you. If they do not, no amount of strap tension will stop them leaking – a different shape is the answer.
One rule for the anti-fog: never wipe the inside of the lens. The coating is microscopically thin and a finger or a towel removes it permanently. Rinse in fresh water and shake dry.
