Highlights

The first float most children learn on

Arm bands hold a child upright without an adult gripping them, which is what lets a beginner stop panicking and start kicking. Two chambers per band give a margin if one is punctured.

Two chambers per band

Each band holds two separate inflated rings. If one is punctured the other still floats, which is why double-chamber bands are the standard for children.

Soft-edged PVC

The openings are rolled and the inside face is smooth, so the band does not chafe the inner arm over a long session.

Valves that hold

Push-in safety valves stay sealed under water pressure and let the air out quickly when you pinch them.

Packs flat

Deflated they fold into a beach bag. Two bands weigh almost nothing and take no room in a car.

Product description

About this product

Inflatable arm bands are the simplest way to give a child enough buoyancy to stay upright while they get used to water. Each band is a PVC sleeve containing two separate air chambers. They slide up the upper arm, sit just below the shoulder, and hold the child high enough that the mouth stays clear of the surface without them having to fight for it.

The two-chamber construction is the point. A single-chamber float that develops a leak becomes useless in seconds. With two chambers, a puncture in one leaves the child with roughly half the buoyancy and time for an adult to reach them. Inflate both chambers on both bands every time – it is tempting to fill only the outer one because it goes faster, and it defeats the design.

Fit matters more than most people expect. The band should be tight enough that it does not slide down past the elbow when the arm is lifted, and loose enough not to mark the skin. Inflate to firm but not drum-hard: an over-inflated band splits at the seam, and PVC that has been sitting in a hot car expands further when it hits cool pool water.

Arm bands are a confidence aid, not a safety device. They keep a child upright in a supervised pool. They are not built for the sea, where a current or a wave will take a child faster than a float can hold them, and they can slip off a wet arm. For Coco Beach, Kigamboni or any open water, put a child in a proper buoyancy vest instead.

Questions

Good to know

Are arm bands a safety device?

No. They are a buoyancy training aid for supervised pool use. They can slip off a wet arm, they can be punctured, and they will not hold a child against a current. A child wearing them still needs an adult within arm-s reach at all times.

Can I use these at the beach?

We would not. At Coco Beach, Kigamboni or anywhere with waves and current, a child needs a buoyancy vest that is strapped on and cannot slide off. Arm bands are for a pool with an adult in the water.

How tight should they be?

Snug on the upper arm, just below the shoulder. Lift the arm straight up - if the band slides towards the elbow it is too loose or under-inflated. If it leaves a deep mark on the skin it is too tight.

Do I need to inflate both chambers?

Yes, both chambers on both bands, every time. The second chamber is what keeps a child afloat if the first one is punctured. Filling only one halves the buoyancy and removes the safety margin the design is built around.

How do I get the air out?

Pinch the valve stem at the base and squeeze the band. The valve is designed to release quickly when pinched, so it deflates in seconds rather than needing to be prised open.

How do I look after them?

Rinse in fresh water after chlorine or salt, dry fully before folding, and store out of direct sun. PVC left in the sun goes brittle and splits at the seams. Check both chambers hold air before each session.

What size child do they fit?

They are sized for the upper arm of a young child and are adjustable only by how much air you put in. They will not fit an older child or an adult arm. Check the fit before relying on them in the water.

Do you deliver in Dar es Salaam?

Yes. We deliver across Dar es Salaam and ship nationwide to Arusha, Mwanza, Dodoma, Zanzibar and beyond. You can also collect from our shop.
