CyeeLife Dart Sharpener

Darts

A CyeeLife grinding stone for conditioning steel dart points. The job is removing the burrs and flat spots that wires leave behind and restoring a smooth, slightly rounded tip - not making the point sharp. A needle point bounces out more and cuts holes in your board.

Highlights

Sharper is worse

The counterintuitive fact every darts player should know.

Conditioning, not sharpening

You are removing burrs and restoring a smooth rounded tip, not making it pointy.

A needle point bounces out more

It skids off wire instead of catching beside it. Sharper is worse.

Protects the board

A cut sisal fibre never closes up. A parted one does. That is the whole difference.

Steel tips only

Never take a stone to a plastic soft tip.

About this product

Cyeelife Dart Sharpener – in stock at 361 Degrees Adventure in Tanzania.

A grinding stone for conditioning steel dart points – and conditioning is the right word, because sharpening is exactly what you are not doing.

A steel point picks up damage every time it hits a wire: burrs, flat spots, and eventually a hook. Those defects make the dart skid off wires instead of biting beside them, which is a bounce-out and a lost score. The job of a stone is to take that damage off and leave a smooth, slightly rounded bullet shape.

What you must not do is grind the point to a needle. A needle point is worse in every way. It skids on wire rather than catching, so bounce-outs go up not down. It cuts sisal fibres instead of parting them, which puts permanent holes in a board that would otherwise self-heal for years. It drives into the back of a dart already in the board and wrecks both. And it is a genuine puncture hazard when a dart drops on a foot.

Roll the tip on the stone at a shallow angle, turning the dart as you go so it stays concentric. Ten or fifteen seconds is enough. Steel tips only – never take a stone to a plastic soft tip.

Questions

Good to know

How should I sharpen a steel tip?

You are conditioning the point, not making it pointy. Roll the tip on the stone at a shallow angle, turning the dart as you go, until the burrs and flat spots from hitting wires are gone - ten or fifteen seconds is plenty. Leave it smooth and slightly rounded. A needle point is worse in every way: it skids off wires and bounces out, and it cuts sisal fibres instead of parting them, which puts permanent holes in the board.

How often should I do it?

A quick pass every few sessions, and immediately after a session where you have been hitting a lot of wire. It takes ten or fifteen seconds per dart. Leaving it until the points are visibly hooked is leaving it too late.

When should I replace a point instead of sharpening it?

When it is visibly hooked or bent. Grinding a hook back removes a lot of metal and leaves a short, oddly shaped point that never flies the same. Replacement points are cheap and screw straight in on a 2BA thread.

Can I use it on soft tip darts?

No. Plastic points are not conditioned, they are replaced. A stone will simply chew the plastic and leave a ragged tip that will not enter a machine board cleanly.

Why do bounce-outs increase with a sharp point?

Because a needle point skids off a wire rather than catching beside it. A slightly rounded, lightly textured tip grips on contact with the board surface and holds. Sharper is genuinely worse here.

Will it damage my dartboard if I get this wrong?

Yes. A needle point cuts sisal fibres rather than parting them, and cut fibres do not close up. That is how a board that should last years develops permanent holes and loose segments within months.

Does the climate here affect darts equipment?

Sisal boards mind humidity more than anything else, so hang the board somewhere ventilated and out of driving rain rather than on an exposed veranda. Flights soften and curl if they are left in a hot car. Steel points pick up surface rust in coastal air - wipe them dry after a session and keep them out of a damp bag.

Do you deliver in Dar es Salaam?

Yes. We deliver across Dar es Salaam and send nationwide to Arusha, Moshi, Mwanza, Dodoma, Zanzibar and beyond by courier. Call or WhatsApp us if you need a same-day drop in the city.
