The Luke Littler 22G Brass Steel Tip is brass with no tungsten content, a 60 mm barrel at 8.7 mm diameter, fixed 26 mm points, supplied with a generous bundle of shafts and flights and a tri-fold wallet. The 80 percent Tungsten Steel Tip Set is a mid-range tungsten dart. The G1 SP is 90 percent tungsten with a 50 mm by 6.5 mm barrel, a Dual Pixel Tip grip and removable Swiss Points with the tool. The Loadout SP is 90 percent tungsten on a straight 52 mm by 6.3 mm barrel.

What are the four candidates?

What is a Swiss Point?

Target's removable point system. The point unscrews from the barrel so you can change length or replace a damaged point without replacing the dart, and the SP sets ship with the tool to do it. Fixed-point sets do not offer that.

Does the brass set matter less?

It is a good dart for what it is - and Target's brass Littler set comes with a genuinely generous bundle of shafts, flights and a wallet. It simply is not a tungsten dart, and at 8.7 mm it is far fatter than the 90 percent barrels, which is what tungsten buys you.

What does the tungsten percentage mean?

It is the proportion of tungsten by weight in the barrel alloy - the rest is a binder such as nickel, because pure tungsten is too brittle to machine. Tungsten is more than twice as dense as brass, so a higher percentage means a physically slimmer barrel at the same weight. Slimmer barrels take up less room in a treble bed, which is what lets three darts group in one segment.

Brass or tungsten - what should I buy?

Brass is the right starting point for casual play and it is what most house darts are. 80 percent tungsten is the first properly serious step. 90 percent is the standard for league and professional play. Above 90 the gains get small and the price does not, so most players are better served by a well-shaped 90 percent barrel than by chasing 95.

Steel tip or soft tip - which do I need?

Steel tip darts have a metal point and go into a sisal bristle board. Soft tip darts have a flexible plastic point and go into an electronic board. Never throw steel tips at an electronic board: the point punches through the plastic segments and can wreck the sensors underneath, and that is not repairable. Soft tips on a bristle board simply bounce out.
