The barrel takes either a steel point or a plastic soft point on the same thread. Swap the points and the same darts play on a bristle board or on an electronic machine. Shafts and flights are unchanged.

Weight. Electronic boards cap dart weight, commonly at 18 or 20 g, to protect their plastic segments. A barrel that suits steel tip play at 22 or 23 g may exceed that limit even with soft points fitted. Check the machine's stated maximum before playing.

On a convertible set, nylon makes sense: cheap, light, and they snap rather than bend, so damage is obvious and replacing one costs almost nothing. Aluminium is more durable but can seize in a barrel if over-tightened.

Steel tip darts have a metal point and go into a sisal bristle board. Soft tip darts have a flexible plastic point and go into an electronic board. Never throw steel tips at an electronic board: the point punches through the plastic segments and can wreck the sensors underneath, and that is not repairable. Soft tips on a bristle board simply bounce out.

2BA is the standard dart thread - 4.7 mm major diameter - and virtually every modern barrel, shaft and point uses it. The older alternative is a 1/4 inch thread, noticeably fatter and coarser, found on some cheap brass and house darts. They are not interchangeable and forcing one into the other strips the thread. Flights are not threaded at all, so any standard-shape flight fits any standard-shape shaft.

The bullseye goes 1.73 m from the floor, and the throwing line sits 2.37 m horizontally from the face of the board - measured to the board face, not the wall, because a board with a surround stands proud of it. Cross-check with the diagonal: 2.93 m from the centre of the bull to the back of the oche. If the diagonal does not match, one of your other two measurements is wrong.
