This is a full-body striking dummy – a human-shaped torso, head and arms on a freestanding weighted base, in a soft silastic surface.

The argument for one over a heavy bag is target specificity. A cylindrical bag has no anatomy: you hit it at chest height and that is that. A body-shaped dummy has a jaw, temples, a solar plexus, a liver and floating ribs, and once those are in front of you, training changes. You stop hitting hard at a surface and start placing shots at points – which is what actually ends fights and what a bag never teaches.

It is particularly useful for martial arts beyond boxing. Elbows, knees, clinch work and trapping all need something with a head and shoulders. A bag cannot be clinched.

The silastic surface is soft and yields on impact, which is kinder to the hands than a tightly filled canvas bag. That does not mean you train without hand protection – wraps and gloves still apply for anything sustained, particularly for elbows and hard body shots.

Fill the base completely, with water or sand. A tall dummy is inherently top-heavy, and a part-filled base means it rocks with every strike and eventually goes over. Sand is heavier and more stable; water is easier to empty if you want to move it.

Set the height so the head is at your own head height. A dummy set too low teaches you to punch downwards, which is a habit that does not transfer.
