Highlights

Something else decides when you punch

On a bag you choose when to throw, so you are only ever training your own timing. A target that lights up without warning removes that - you react to it, which is a genuinely different and much harder skill, and the only one that matters against a person.

LED sequences

Pads light in patterns you have to hit, so the machine sets the timing rather than you.

Music integration

Works to a beat, which turns a drill into something you keep doing.

Scoring

Counts hits and reaction times, so sessions become comparable rather than just tiring.

Wall mounted

Takes no floor space, which is its main advantage over a bag or a stand.

Product description

About this product

Smart Boxing Machine – in stock at 361 Degrees Adventure in Tanzania.

This is a wall-mounted electronic reflex trainer: a panel of targets that light up in sequence, with music and a display, that you hit as fast as you can.

What it trains is reaction, and that is worth separating from everything else in boxing. On a heavy bag or a speed ball, you decide when to throw. That trains power, technique, rhythm and conditioning – but not reaction, because nothing is prompting you. A light that comes on without warning does. You are responding rather than initiating, which is much harder and is the only version that applies against a person.

The scoring is what makes it stick. A session on a bag is hard to compare with the last one; a machine that counts hits and measures reaction time gives you a number, and a number you are trying to beat is why people keep coming back to it. The music integration does the same job differently – working to a beat makes ten minutes pass rather than drag.

Being wall-mounted is a real advantage in a flat or a small house. It takes no floor space at all, which is more than can be said for a freestanding bag with a metre-wide base.

Mount it properly. A unit that gets punched repeatedly needs fixing into something solid – a concrete or block wall with proper plugs, or a stud if it is a timber wall. Screws into plasterboard alone will pull out, usually after a couple of weeks rather than immediately.

Wear wraps and light gloves. The pads are padded but the impacts are fast and repetitive, and bare knuckles wear through.

Questions

Good to know

What does it train that a bag does not?

Reaction. On a bag you choose when to punch, so you only train your own timing. A light that comes on without warning makes you respond to something external, which is much harder and is what actually happens against a person.

How do I mount it?

Into something solid. Concrete or block wall with proper plugs, or into a timber stud. It gets punched repeatedly, and screws into plasterboard alone will work loose and pull out - usually a fortnight in, taking a lump of wall with them.

Does it need power?

Yes, it is an electronic unit. Our supplier does not publish the supply details, so ask us before ordering - it matters whether it takes mains power, batteries or a rechargeable pack, and where the socket will need to be.

Is it a substitute for a punching bag?

No, and it is not trying to be. A bag builds power and conditioning; this builds reaction and hand speed. They are complementary. If you can only have one and you have no space, this is the one that fits on a wall.

Do I need gloves?

Wraps and light gloves. The impacts are fast and repetitive, and even on a padded target bare knuckles wear through within a session or two.

Is it suitable for children?

Yes, and it holds their attention far better than a bag does, because of the lights, the music and the score. Mount it at their height, or somewhere both can use it, and start with light gloves on.

Do you deliver in Dar es Salaam?

Yes. We deliver across Dar es Salaam and ship nationwide to Arusha, Mwanza, Dodoma, Zanzibar and beyond. You can also collect from our shop.
