Solar or USB

4000 mAh battery charges from the built-in panel in sun, or over USB in 3 to 4 hours.

Magnets and loops

Neodymium magnets stick it to a vehicle or rack; two closed loops hang it from a ridgeline.

Nothing to shatter, and it still works as a compact lantern while rolled up.

Product description

About this product

This is a ZTARX S86, and the idea behind it is genuinely clever. Deflated it is a rolled-up TPU tube that fits in a jacket pocket. A few breaths through the one-way valve and it becomes an 86 cm glowing column that lights a whole table evenly, with no hot spot and no harsh shadow – the inflated tube acts as its own diffuser.

Four modes: low, medium, bright and SOS, up to 250 lumens. A 4000 mAh battery charges from the built-in solar panel in strong sun, or over USB in 3 to 4 hours when you would rather not wait. The same battery outputs 5V, so it will put roughly one full charge back into a phone.

Mounting is by two closed loops, so it hangs from a ridgeline, an awning rail or a branch, and by neodymium magnets that stick it to a vehicle, a roof rack or a steel pole.

It is TPU, so it is genuinely waterproof, it floats, and it does not shatter. And it still works rolled up in the bag as a compact lantern if you cannot be bothered to inflate it.

ZTARX hold a granted US patent on the inflatable lamp design (US 12,117,153 B2), so this is the original rather than a copy.

Questions

Good to know

How do I inflate it?

By mouth, through a one-way valve - a few breaths is enough. No pump is needed. To pack it away you open the valve, press the air out and roll it into the bag.

Does it work without inflating it?

Yes. Rolled up in its bag it still lights, so you can use it as a compact lantern and only inflate it when you want the big soft column of light.

How long does solar charging take?

20 to 24 hours of good sun for a full charge, so treat solar as a top-up that keeps it alive on a long trip rather than the main way to charge it. USB does the job in 3 to 4 hours.

Will it puncture?

It is TPU, the same material used in inflatable sleeping mats and dry bags - tough and flexible rather than brittle. Keep it off thorns and hot surfaces and it will last.

Can it charge my phone?

Yes, the 4000 mAh battery has a 5V output, good for roughly one full phone charge.

Why is the light so soft?

Because the whole inflated tube is the diffuser. Instead of a bright point throwing hard shadows, the light comes off 86 cm of glowing surface, which is much easier to eat and read by.
