Product description

About this product

A collapsible lantern with a solar panel in the lid, so it tops itself up during the day and is ready at dusk. When the sun has not obliged, a USB charge takes about two hours.

Collapsed it is a flat disc that slides into a pack. Press the two halves apart and a frosted column extends, giving 360 degree light for a tent or a table. Closed, the LED in the base works as a torch.

A 1 W LED gives several brightness levels, and on the lowest setting the lantern runs up to 20 hours. The whole thing weighs about 145 g and is water resistant, with a folding carry handle and a 4.5 V solar panel on top.

Buy it for the trips where charging is not guaranteed, and as the light that keeps working in a long power cut because the sun keeps refilling it.

Questions

Good to know

How long does solar charging take?

A full day of strong sun. Solar is best treated as a top-up that keeps the lantern alive on a long trip rather than the fast way to charge it - use USB for that, about two hours.

Does it work as a torch too?

Yes. Collapsed, the LED in the base points forward as a directional beam. Extended, the frosted column spreads it 360 degrees.

Is 1 W bright enough?

For a tent, a table or a power cut, yes - and because it collapses, it takes up almost no room. For lighting a whole campsite, look at our larger lanterns.

Can I leave it on the dashboard to charge?

Yes, that is the easiest way to keep it topped up. Just be aware a closed car in Dar gets very hot, which is not good for any lithium battery over time - a windowsill or a pack lid in the sun is kinder to it.

Is it waterproof?

Water resistant rather than waterproof. Rain and splashes are fine; do not submerge it.

How long will the battery last overall?

Years, if you keep it charged rather than storing it flat. Give it a USB charge every few months if it is sitting unused.
