A mini pump with a rigid head screws directly onto the valve, and every stroke then levers on that valve – which is how Presta valve stems get bent and torn out of tubes. A short flexible hose isolates the valve from the pumping force entirely. On a roadside repair with your hands already dirty and light going, that difference is the whole product.

How do I use it on a Presta valve?

Unscrew the small nut at the top of the valve first, and press it briefly to release a puff of air, which frees it if it is stuck. Attach the hose, pump, then screw the nut back down before refitting the dust cap. Forgetting to close it lets the tyre down slowly.

Where do I carry it?

Either on the frame bottle bosses using the supplied bracket, or in a saddle bag. If you mount it on the frame, check the bracket occasionally - vibration works mounting screws loose, and a pump lost on a rough road is only noticed when you need it.

What else should I carry with it?

A spare tube, two tyre levers and a patch kit. A pump alone does nothing about a hole. Together they turn a puncture into a twenty-minute delay.
