About this product

Three products that together cover a complete bike service: clean it, protect it, lubricate it. Muc-Off put the kit together because those three steps in that order are what actually keeps a bike running, and buying them separately is how people end up with a cleaner and no lube.

The cleaner is Nano Tech Bike Cleaner, 1 litre – alkaline based, free from acids, CFCs and solvents, safe on carbon fibre, anodised metal, paint, decals, seals and cables, and rated by Muc-Off as disc rotor and pad friendly. The lube is the dry-weather version, which is the right choice for most of the Tanzanian year.

The protect step is where market versions differ. Muc-Off’s US box pairs the cleaner and dry lube with MO-94; the European all-weather box uses Bike Protect. Both do the same job – drive moisture out after a wash and leave a protective film – but they are not the same product, so check which one is in the box you receive and ask us if it is not clear.

The order is the whole point: wash, dry, protect, then lube the chain last.

What is the right order to wash a bike?

Rinse the worst off with low pressure, degrease and clean the drivetrain first so its grime does not run over clean paint, then wash the frame and wheels, rinse, dry, and lubricate the chain last. Doing the chain first and the frame second is the single commonest mistake.

Which protectant is in the box?

That varies by market version. Muc-Off's US dry-lube kit uses MO-94; the European all-weather kit uses Bike Protect. Both drive out moisture and leave a protective film. Check the box you receive, or ask us before you order.

Why a dry lube rather than all-weather?

Because dust, not rain, is the main enemy of a drivetrain here for most of the year. A dry lube sheds dust. Add a wet lube separately for masika and vuli if you ride through the rains.

Is it safe on carbon and paintwork?

Muc-Off formulate their bike cleaners to be safe on carbon fibre, anodised metal, decals and paint, and free of acids and solvents. Rinse it off rather than letting it dry on the surface in direct sun.

Does the heat here change how I should use it?

Yes. Wash in shade or early morning. In full Dar sun a cleaner dries on the frame before you can rinse it, which leaves streaks and stops it working. Keep the surface wet while the product does its job.

Why does drying the bike matter so much here?

Because of the salt and the humidity. Water left standing in bolt heads, on the chain and around the cassette starts corrosion quickly on the coast. Dry the bike, then lubricate - ten minutes that adds years to a drivetrain.

Will it harm my disc brakes?

Keep any oil, lube or polish off the rotors and pads. If a lube or spray reaches a rotor the brake will squeal and lose power, and a contaminated pad usually has to be replaced. Cover or shield the rotors when you spray, and wipe rotors with a dedicated disc brake cleaner if anything lands on them.
