Product description

About this product

The locking mechanism is the feature worth paying for.

On a cheap multitool the tools pivot freely, and a blade or screwdriver that folds while you are pushing on it takes skin with it. On this one each tool locks in place when opened and releases deliberately, which makes it safe to put real force behind.

It carries pliers, both screwdriver types, a knife and more, in stainless steel that resists the corrosion that ends tools kept in a damp vehicle or a boat.

Questions

Good to know

Why does locking matter?

Because the moment you need force is the moment an unlocked tool folds. A screwdriver that collapses while you lean on it puts the handle edges into your palm, and a knife blade doing the same is worse. Locking tools let you use the thing properly rather than tentatively.

Is it a substitute for real tools?

For field repairs, yes. For sustained work, no: the handles are short, so torque is limited and your hand tires. It is the tool that is with you.

How does it compare to the plier multitool you sell?

That one is plier-led with twelve functions including fishing tools. This one is the general-purpose option with the locking mechanism. If you fish, take the other. If you want something that locks solidly for camp and vehicle work, take this.

Will it rust?

Stainless resists it, but the pivots will seize with salt if never rinsed. Rinse in fresh water after the coast and put a drop of oil in the joints.

How do I look after it?

Keep the pivots clean and oiled, do not force a stiff joint, and learn the release for each lock before you need it in a hurry.

Will it replace a proper toolkit?

For field repairs, largely yes - a multitool handles the tightening, cutting and prying that goes wrong on a trip. For anything sustained it will not, because the tools are short, the leverage is poor and your hand tires. It is the tool you have with you, which is usually worth more than the better tool at home.
