Most first aid kits are a bag of supplies. This one groups its contents into labelled pockets by what has gone wrong — bleeding, fractures and sprains, blisters and burns, medication, instruments — so under pressure you open one pocket rather than emptying the bag onto the ground. There is a contents map on the outside so you know what is in it before you open it.
The kit is rated for four people for up to seven days. It carries real trauma capability rather than plasters alone: a 5 x 9 inch trauma pad, conforming gauze, an irrigation syringe, EMT shears, and a full medication set.
The book is a substantial part of what you are buying. Wilderness & Travel Medicine by Dr Eric Weiss covers more than fifty improvised techniques with a hundred illustrations. In a place where a clinic may be hours away, knowing what to do matters more than owning another bandage.
