How many pieces is it?

We have deliberately not printed a number. The same kit is sold internationally as anything from 120 to 320 pieces depending on how the seller counts a plaster, so the figure tells you nothing useful. What matters is what is in it, which you should check when it arrives.

Is this a replacement for a proper medical kit?

No, and that is worth being clear about. The first aid contents here are basic. If you are going properly remote, or you are responsible for a group, a dedicated wilderness medical kit is the better tool and this is the better vehicle kit. Many people carry both, in different places.

What should I add to it?

Any personal medication, rehydration salts, which matter more in this climate than most people expect, a decent torch with spare batteries, and water. Almost no kit comes with enough of any of those.

Where should I keep it?

Somewhere you can reach it without unpacking the vehicle. A kit at the bottom of a loaded boot is a kit you will not get to. If it is for the house, keep it by the door you would actually leave through.

How often should I check it?

Once a year, and after any use. Consumables expire, batteries leak, and adhesives fail faster in heat and humidity than the printed dates suggest.
