Lift it and pull, and the frame locks open. Naturehike claims three seconds and that is not marketing licence: there is nothing to thread, extend or clip. It is the fastest way we sell to get shade over a patch of ground.

The inner fabric is the interesting part. It is a seven-layer dark weave that blocks 99.9% of UVA and UVB and carries a UPF 50+ rating, so the inside stays genuinely dim and cool rather than merely shaded. On a beach at midday that is the difference between a tent people sit in and one they abandon by eleven.

It works four ways. Zip it up and it is a three-person tent that takes a queen air mattress. Open the doors and it is a shaded lounge. Pitch the fly out and it becomes a canopy over open ground. Leave it closed and it stores kit out of the sun. Two doors and two large mesh windows move air through it.

The floor is 150D ripstop Oxford with a PU waterproof layer. Packed it is 80 cm long and 4 kg.

Good to know

Is three seconds real?

Yes. The frame is pre-assembled and spring-loaded: you lift it and pull, and it locks. What takes actual time is pegging it and running the guy ropes, which on a beach you should never skip.

How dark does the inner get?

Naturehike rates the seven-layer fabric at blocking 99.9% of UVA and UVB, with a UPF 50+ rating. In practice it is dim enough to nap in at midday and noticeably cooler than a standard single-layer shelter.

Does it really sleep three?

Three adults fit on the floor, or one queen air mattress with room at the sides. For overnight camping, two plus gear is the comfortable arrangement.

Can I use it as a canopy?

Yes, that is what the fly is designed for: pitched out it gives open shade rather than an enclosed tent. With the doors open it also works as a shaded lounge with the floor still in place.

Will it hold up on a windy beach?

Only if you peg it. A light pop-up shelter with nobody in it is a kite. Use all eight stakes and all four wind ropes, and bury or weight the stakes in soft sand where they will not bite.

How do I fold it back down?

It collapses and twists into a flat disc, the same technique as any pop-up. Practise once at home before the first trip rather than learning it on a beach with an audience.

How do I look after it?

Shake the sand out before folding, especially from the zip tracks, which is what kills beach tents. Dry it fully before packing and sponge with cool water and mild soap.
