Product description

About this product

Person Instant Cabin Tent – in stock at 361 Degrees Adventure in Tanzania.

The instant cabin tent with a rainfly that reaches the ground, adding a 17 sq ft covered porch for boots and bags.

Most cabin tents ship with a partial fly: a cap over the roof that leaves the mesh walls exposed. It is fine until rain comes in at an angle. This version carries a full-coverage rainfly down to the ground on adjustable panels, which changes two things. Driving rain no longer reaches the walls, and the fly extends past the door into a 17 square foot vestibule, so wet boots, a cool box and muddy bags live outside the sleeping space instead of in it.

Setup is CORE’s instant system: the poles are already attached, so you unfold the tent and push the telescoping legs out. About sixty seconds to standing, then peg it down and run the guy ropes.

Inside is 11 ft x 9 ft with 72 in of headroom and near-vertical walls, rated for two queen air beds. The mesh is no-see-um, a finer weave that stops the sandflies ordinary netting lets through. Ground vents feed cool air in, the mesh ceiling lets heat out, and a sealed electrical port takes a power cable. There is a wall organizer and a gear loft.

The full fly costs weight: 27 lbs (12.1 kg) against 23 lbs for the standard version, in a 48 in bag. If you camp in the rains, it is the version to buy.

Key Features

  • Full-coverage rainfly to ground level with adjustable panels, not a roof-only cap
  • 17 sq ft vestibule for boots, bags and cool boxes outside the sleeping area
  • Instant Hub setup: poles pre-attached, standing in about 60 seconds
  • 11 ft x 9 ft of near-vertical cabin floor with 72 in (6 ft) of headroom, fits 2 queen air beds
  • H2O Block weather protection: 68D polyester rated 1200 mm, fully taped seams
  • No-see-um mesh, finer than standard mesh, against sandflies and midges
  • Panoramic mesh ceiling and ground vents for cross-ventilation
  • Sealed electrical port, wall organizer and gear loft
  • Wind-rated to 35 mph (56 km/h) with the guylines pegged out
  • 27 lbs (12.1 kg), packs to 48 in x 10 in x 10 in

Who It Suits

  • Anyone camping through the long or short rains rather than around them
  • Families who need somewhere dry to leave boots and bags
  • Coastal and lakeside camps, for the no-see-um mesh as much as the fly
  • Longer stays where weather will turn at least once
  • Buyers choosing between this and the standard instant cabin: this is the wet-season answer

It is a 3-season tent. The full fly makes it markedly better in rain than the roof-fly version, but it is still a tall cabin shape that catches wind, so peg it down and guy it out properly.

What’s Included

  • Tent with pre-attached poles
  • Full-coverage rainfly with attached guylines
  • Wall organizer
  • Gear loft
  • Tent stakes
  • Carry bag

Questions

Good to know

How is this different from the standard 6 person instant cabin tent?

The fly. The standard version has a partial rainfly that covers the roof, leaving the mesh walls exposed to rain coming in at an angle. This one runs to ground level on adjustable panels and extends past the door into a 17 sq ft porch. It costs 4 lbs more and about a minute more to pitch properly.

What can I actually fit in the vestibule?

Seventeen square feet takes boots, a couple of packs and a cool box, or two camp chairs if you want to sit out of the rain. It is covered but not sealed at the sides, so it shelters rather than secures.

Is sixty seconds realistic?

To standing, yes, for two people who have pitched it once. The full fly then needs attaching and its panels adjusting, so budget a few minutes more than the standard version before you are properly weatherproof.

Will it keep the rain out?

Better than the roof-fly version, which is the whole point of it. The fabric is 68D polyester rated 1200 mm with factory-taped seams and full fly coverage. Pitch off low ground where water collects and peg the guylines out.

Does the full fly make it hotter inside?

It can, because the fly blocks the breeze the mesh walls would otherwise catch. The panels are adjustable for exactly this reason: roll them up on a dry night and you get the airflow back, then drop them when weather arrives.

What is no-see-um mesh?

A finer weave than standard insect mesh, closed enough to stop sandflies and midges that walk through ordinary netting. Worth having anywhere near the coast or a lake.

How do I look after it?

Dry both the tent and the fly fully before packing, especially after coastal trips. Clean with a soft sponge, mild soap and cool water, never a machine wash. Keep the leg joints free of sand so they keep telescoping smoothly.
