About this product

The CR 10000 sits at the top of Noeby Nonsuch conventional range, above the 2500, 4000, 6000 and 8000. It is a two-speed lever-drag overhead reel on a CNC-machined aluminium body, built for the heaviest end of offshore fishing: big-game trolling, deep dropping, and jigging in serious depth and current.

The two-speed gearbox is the reason to buy a reel like this. When a large fish is beaten but sitting deep, you shift into low gear, the retrieve rate halves and the cranking torque roughly doubles, and you grind it up instead of fighting it in one gear until you cannot. The lever drag complements it: strike and full positions are pre-set, so you can move between them mid-fight and get the same pressure every time rather than guessing at a star wheel.

Off this coast it belongs on the offshore banks and pinnacles, the Mafia channel and out towards Latham Island – marlin, big yellowfin and dogtooth tuna, shark, and heavy bottom work over deep structure.

An honest limitation. Noeby publish the Nonsuch range only on a site we cannot currently reach, and no dealer publishes figures for the 10000 specifically – the CR spec sheets we can find stop at the 8000. The model is real and it is in the range, but we are not able to give you a verified gear ratio, drag figure, weight or line capacity for it, and we are not prepared to invent them. Good to know

Why are the specifications blank?

Because Noeby do not publish them for the 10000 size, and neither does any dealer we can reach - their CR spec sheets stop at the 8000. The reel is real and it is in the range. We would rather leave the fields open than fill them with numbers borrowed from a smaller reel. Ask us and we will weigh, measure and photograph the actual unit.

What can you tell me for certain?

That it is the largest size in the Nonsuch CR range, that it is a two-speed lever-drag conventional reel, and that the body is CNC-machined aluminium. Those are consistent across the range and across every source we can reach.

What is the point of a two-speed reel?

Low gear. When a heavy fish is beaten but still deep, you shift down: retrieve rate halves, cranking torque roughly doubles, and you grind it up rather than fighting on one gear until your arms give out.

How does the CR differ from the Nonsuch JG?

The CR is the heavy geared line - two speeds, built for trolling and deep cranking as much as jigging, with capacities quoted in mono. The JG is a single-speed 5.2:1 jigging reel, lighter, with a carbon drag and braid-only capacities, built around one technique.

What rod should I pair it with?

A heavy casting jigging rod or a big-game trolling rod. Our CRONY Tuna Warrior trolling rods and the heavier CRONY Amazing jigging blanks are the natural partners at this size.

Where would I use it around Dar es Salaam?

Left or right hand?

Overhead reel handles are fixed at manufacture rather than reversible, so the reel is built in a left- or right-hand version. Tell us which you need and we will confirm what is in stock.

How do I look after it?

Rinse with fresh water after every trip - gently, not with a jet - and dry it before storage. Back the drag lever right off so the stack is not left compressed, and get water around the handle and lever rather than just over the frame.
