Most folding fire pits are a compromise: either they pack small and warp after a season, or they last and take ten minutes of slotting panels together in the dark. The Fire Pit Max does neither. One pull and it is standing; one lift and it collapses.

It is full 430 stainless throughout, with a high-heat coating rated to 600 C over a frame geometry designed to resist the warping that ends cheaper pits. The perforated double-wall sides feed air up the inside face, which burns the smoke rather than sending it into your eyes — the reason a fire in this runs cleaner and hotter than one in a plain steel box.

At 405 mm square it takes proper firewood rather than kindling, and the flat top takes a grill for cooking. Four legs with groove-and-pin mounting keep it stable on the uneven ground you actually camp on.

What is secondary combustion, and does it matter?

Air is drawn up between the double walls, heated on the way, and injected back into the fire through the upper holes. That burns the smoke and unburnt gases that an ordinary fire sends up the chimney. In practice: less smoke in your eyes, more heat from the same wood, and far less ash to clear. It is the single biggest difference between this and a plain steel fire box.

Why does it cost what it costs?

Because it is a Korean-designed branded product in 430 stainless with a 600 C coating and a one-action frame, not a folded sheet of mild steel. The cheap fire pits warp out of shape and burn through, usually within a season or two of real use. This is the buy-once option, and if you want the budget answer we also sell a lightweight folding fire pit at a fraction of the price.

Can I cook on it?

Yes, that is a main use. The flat top takes a grill grate, and the 405 mm opening gives a proper bed of coals. Let the flames die down to embers before you cook, as you would on any wood fire.

Where can I use it?

On bare ground, gravel, sand or a fire mat. Never on grass, decking, paving that can crack, or anything flammable. It raises the fire off the ground, which is exactly why many campsites permit it where an open ground fire is banned.

How close can it be to the tent?

Further than you think. A nylon flysheet melts from radiant heat long before a flame reaches it, and a spark on a tent is a hole. Three metres is a sensible minimum, more in wind, and never downwind of guy lines.

Does it really open in one second?

Effectively, yes. It is a single motion rather than an assembly job, which is the whole design brief. That matters most when you are setting up in the dark or packing away in rain.

How do I look after it?

Let it cool completely before packing, both for the bag and because thermal shock is hard on any coating. Empty the ash rather than storing it damp, since wet ash is alkaline and attacks steel. Wipe it down before storage. Discolouration of the coating with use is normal and does not affect it.
