Product description

About this product

Naturehike Foldable Storage Box – in stock at 361 Degrees Adventure in Tanzania.

A box in camp, a flat sheet in the car.

The problem with camp boxes is the drive home: a rigid crate takes the same space empty as full. This one folds to 9.5 cm, so a stack of them lies flat in the boot on the way back.

It is proper polypropylene, not fabric. That matters when you are packing a stove, gas, tins and a cast-iron pan: the walls hold their shape, the lid stays flat, and nothing crushes what is underneath. The lid takes 50 kg stacked, which is two more loaded boxes on top or somebody sitting on it.

The 25 litre size is the one most people want: big enough for a full kitchen kit, small enough that you can still lift it when it is loaded.

Questions

Good to know

How much does it actually hold?

Twenty-five litres, which in practice is a two-burner stove, a gas canister, a kettle, two pans, plates and cutlery for four, with room for tins. The internal dimensions are 42.5 x 25 x 22.5 cm, so measure your stove against that if it is a big one.

Is it waterproof?

No. It is a rigid box with a lid, not a sealed case. It keeps dust, insects and light rain off, and it will shed a shower in the back of a pickup, but it is not a dry box and should not be treated as one.

Can I really stack things on it?

Yes, up to about 50 kg on the lid, which is the point of a rigid box. Two more loaded boxes on top is well within it. The 20 kg figure is what you put inside, and that is the one to watch, because a box loaded past that becomes awkward to lift by the side handles.

How does it fold?

The walls hinge inward and the whole thing collapses to 9.5 cm with the lid on top. It takes a few seconds and no tools. Empty it first, obviously.

Is the larger size worth it?

The 50 litre holds twice as much and takes 30 kg inside, but loaded it is heavy for one person and it eats more boot space folded. Most people are better served by two 25 litre boxes than one 50: easier to carry, and you can sort kitchen from everything else.

How do I look after it?

Wash it out with soapy water and let it dry fully before folding, because a folded damp box grows mould in the hinges. Keep it out of permanent direct sun when stored, since UV makes polypropylene brittle over years. Do not stand on the lid on uneven ground.
