USB Rechargeable Electric Arc Lighter

Cooking Gear

A lighter with no fuel and no flame - it makes a plasma arc between two electrodes, so wind cannot blow it out. The neck bends 360 degrees to reach down a candle jar or under a burner, and it charges by USB from a power bank or a car.

Highlights

Wind cannot blow out an electric arc

No gas to run out, no flame to gutter. Press the button, touch the arc to what you want lit, and recharge it by USB when it finally runs down.

Windproof by design

A plasma arc is not a flame, so the wind that kills matches and gas lighters has no effect on it at all.

360 degree flexible neck

Bends to reach the bottom of a candle jar, under a gas burner or into a jiko without burning your fingers.

Charges by USB

Top it up from a power bank, a laptop or a car charger. No gas to buy and nothing to refill.

No fuel, no flame

Nothing to leak, nothing to spill, and nothing that can flare in your hand. Safer to keep in a bag than a gas lighter.

Product description

About this product

This is not a lighter with a small flame – it has no flame at all. Press the button and it strikes a plasma arc between two electrodes, a small bright line of electricity hot enough to light a candle, a gas burner, a cigarette, a fire lighter or a bed of charcoal. Because it is not a flame, wind does nothing to it. On a beach at Kigamboni or a ridge on the mountain, that is the whole point.

The neck is the second good idea. It bends and holds its shape through a full 360 degrees, so you can reach down into a candle jar that has burned low, get under a gas burner, or angle into a jiko without putting your hand over the heat. Anyone who has tried to light a deep candle with a match knows exactly what problem that solves.

It charges over USB, from a power bank, a laptop, a car charger or a wall plug, and a full charge gives many uses. There is no gas to buy, nothing to refill and nothing to leak in a bag – which also makes it a sensible thing to keep in a glovebox or a camera bag where a gas lighter would make you think twice.

It suits camping, home use during a power cut, lighting a braai, or simply keeping in a kitchen drawer in Dar es Salaam. Keep it away from children and let it cool for a moment between long presses, as the electrode tips do warm up.

Questions

Good to know

How is it windproof?

It makes an electric arc rather than a flame. There is nothing for wind to blow out, which is why it works on a beach or an exposed camp site where matches and gas lighters fail.

How long does a charge last?

Many uses per charge for normal lighting - candles, a stove, a braai. Lighting charcoal takes longer presses and uses more, so charge it before a trip.

Can I charge it from a power bank or a car?

Yes, any USB source works - a power bank, a car charger, a laptop or a wall adaptor. That makes it practical on trips where there is no mains power.

Can it light charcoal?

It will light a fire lighter or paper under charcoal easily. For lighting a full jiko directly, a gas torch does that job far faster - we stock those too.

Is it safe to keep in a bag?

Safer than a gas lighter, because there is no fuel to leak and no flame to flare. Keep it switched off and away from metal objects that could press the button, and out of reach of children.

Does the tip get hot?

The electrode tips warm up after repeated use. Let it rest a moment between long presses rather than holding the button down continuously.

Will it work when wet?

Dry the tips before use. Like any electrical device, it should not be used while wet or dripping.

Do you stock these in Dar es Salaam?

Yes, we keep them in the showroom and ship across Tanzania. Message us for delivery to your town.
