Highlights

Grills like a braai, carries like a suitcase

Butane cartridge or propane cylinder, your choice. Click to light, cook on stainless steel, close the lid and carry it away.

Dual fuel

Runs on a 220 g butane cartridge or a 16.4 oz propane cylinder, so you use whichever fuel you can actually get where you are going.

10,000 BTU/hr

Enough heat to grill properly rather than warm food through, and it reaches that heat in a couple of minutes rather than twenty.

Safety built in

A pressure sensor, a gas cut-off and leakage protection - the features that matter on any portable gas appliance in a hot climate.

Suitcase design

Lid closes, handle folds up, and the whole grill carries in one hand with the stainless drip tray inside.

Product description

About this product

The appeal of this one is obvious the moment you pick it up. Closed, it is a case with a handle. Open, it is a gas grill producing 10,000 BTU per hour over a stainless steel surface, ready to cook about two minutes after you press the igniter. There is no charcoal to light, no waiting, and nothing to clear up afterwards except a drip tray.

The dual fuel design is the practical detail. It takes a 220 g or 227 g butane cartridge – the small cans widely sold in Tanzania – or a 16.4 oz propane cylinder, so you use whichever is available where you are rather than being tied to one supply. The canister locks into place with a secure mechanism, and piezo ignition means no matches to keep dry in coastal humidity.

Safety is handled properly for a portable gas appliance, which matters more in Tanzanian heat than in a cooler climate. There is a pressure sensor that cuts the gas if pressure in the canister rises – direct sun on a parked vehicle is exactly the situation it exists for – along with a gas cut-off and leakage protection.

The grill surface and the drip tray are stainless steel, so fat runs off into the tray and the tray goes in the wash-up rather than needing to be scraped. It suits camping, a boot-of-the-car lunch, a beach afternoon at Kigamboni, a caravan or a fishing trip, and it is a sensible thing to keep at home for power cuts. The gas canister is not included.

Questions

Good to know

Which gas canister does it take?

Either a 220 g or 227 g butane cartridge, or a 16.4 oz propane cylinder. We stock butane cartridges in Dar es Salaam - tell us which fuel you prefer and we will supply the right one with the grill.

Is a gas canister included?

No. The canister is sold separately and we keep them in stock alongside the grill.

How many people can it cook for?

It is a compact grill, suited to two to four people at a time. For a gathering, look at our larger folding charcoal grills or the wheeled gas braais.

What does the pressure sensor do?

It cuts the gas supply if pressure inside the canister rises beyond a safe level - for instance if the grill is left in direct sun or too close to another heat source. In Tanzanian heat this is the safety feature that matters most.

Can I use it in a car boot or under a tent awning?

Never in an enclosed space. Gas appliances consume oxygen and produce carbon monoxide. Use it in the open air with clearance above and around it.

How do I clean it?

The stainless grill surface wipes down and the drip tray lifts out to be washed. Do it while the surface is still warm and the fat has not set, and it takes a minute.

Does it work in wind?

The case sides give useful shelter. In strong wind, position the closed side towards the wind or set it behind the vehicle.

Do you deliver upcountry?

Yes, we ship across Tanzania. Gas canisters have transport restrictions on some routes, so message us with your town and we will confirm what can be sent.

Where do these figures come from?

The measurements, weights and output figures on this page come from the supplier's own documentation rather than an independently tested manufacturer specification, and the table marks them as such. If a particular figure matters to you, ask us and we will check the item in the Dar es Salaam showroom before you buy.
