Yonex specify the construction precisely: a high-polymer nylon monofilament core, a high-polymer nylon winding structure over it, and a heat-resistant metal film on the outside. That is a multi-layer synthetic gut architecture – a solid centre with outer wraps – rather than the thousands of loose micro-fibres that make a true multifilament, and rather than two different strings in the mains and crosses that make a hybrid.

The metal film is the headline, and it is unusually relevant in Tanzania. Nylon softens and loses tension as it warms, which is exactly what happens to a racket that lives in this heat. A heat-resistant outer film is designed to resist that, and Yonex categorise the string under durability for the same reason.

The playing character is nylon: softer, more powerful and far more comfortable than a polyester. How thick the string is. It is quoted in millimetres and in a US gauge number where higher means thinner - 1.20 mm is 17 gauge, 1.30 mm is 16. Thinner bites the ball more for extra spin and feel, and breaks sooner. Thicker lasts considerably longer and feels firmer and more controlled, with less spin. 1.25 mm is the sensible middle.
