Naturehike Hexagon Automatic Tent

Automatic Tents

Six sides rather than four: no long flat wall for wind to push against, and about 8.5 square metres of usable floor from a 356 x 310 cm footprint. The hydraulic aluminium frame pushes itself open with nothing to assemble, the roof panel lifts out for a clear night, and the silver-coated shell reflects heat. About 10 kg.

Product description

About this product

Naturehike Hexagon Automatic Tent – in stock at 361 Degrees Adventure in Dar es Salaam.

A hexagonal family tent on a hydraulic frame that opens itself: 8.5 square metres of floor, 1.6 m of height, no poles to assemble.

Six sides instead of four changes how the space works. A hexagon has no long flat wall for wind to push against, and the floor plan puts more usable area inside the same footprint than a rectangle does, because nobody is stuck in a corner. At 356 x 310 cm it gives about 8.5 square metres, enough for four or five people.

The frame is hydraulic quick-expansion aluminium alloy. There is nothing to thread and nothing to assemble: release it and the frame pushes itself open, then you peg it down. This is the fastest category of tent to pitch, and the trade is weight and pack length rather than time.

The outer and ceiling are 150D polyester Oxford with a silver coating that reflects sun, over a heavier 210D Oxford floor, rated PU 2000 mm. Two doors and four windows in B3 mesh give cross-ventilation from several directions at once, and the roof panel is removable, so on a dry night you can open the tent to the sky.

About 10 kg, packing to a 100 cm bag. A matching picnic mat is supplied.

Questions

Good to know

Why hexagonal rather than square?

Two reasons. Wind has no long flat wall to push against, so a six-sided tent is steadier than a rectangle of the same size. And a hexagon has no dead corners, so more of the footprint is floor people actually use.

How fast is the hydraulic frame?

It is the fastest kind of tent there is. You release the frame and it pushes itself open; there is no threading and no assembly. Pegging it down and running the guy ropes is the part that takes real time, and it is not optional.

Does the roof really come off?

Yes, the roof panel is removable. On a dry night you take it off and sleep looking at the sky through the mesh, then put it back if weather comes in. It also makes a substantial difference to heat on a still evening.

Does it really fit four or five?

Four adults sleep comfortably in about 8.5 square metres with room for bags. Five fit at a squeeze with gear outside. At 1.6 m you can kneel and move about, but not stand fully upright.

Will it keep the rain out?

The shell is rated PU 2000 mm with a heavier 210D Oxford floor. That handles ordinary rain. Pitch off low ground and peg every point.

How big is it packed?

About 10 kg in a 100 cm bag. Check that length against your vehicle before buying. One person can carry it a short distance.

How do I look after it?

Dry it fully before packing or it will mildew. Sponge with mild soap and cool water, never a machine wash, which strips the silver coating. Keep the frame joints clean of sand so the hydraulic sections keep moving freely.
