Product description

About this product

Not every headlamp needs to be rechargeable. This one takes two AAA batteries, weighs 47 grams with the band on, and is the lamp to keep in a drawer, a school bag or a glovebox precisely because it does not care whether it has been charged.

One white 3535 bead and two red beads give four modes, with output from 4 to 210 lumens and a beam from 13 to 70 metres. The head tilts through 60 degrees. Construction is ABS and PC with a silicone and polyester woven band, rated IP66 against dust and heavy rain. It comes in yellow or green.

Questions

Good to know

Are batteries included?

No, it takes two AAA cells and they are supplied separately. Good alkalines are fine; lithium AAAs last far longer and will not leak in a hot glovebox.

Why choose AAA over rechargeable?

Because it works whether or not you remembered to charge it. For a spare lamp, a child's lamp or an emergency drawer, that is the whole argument.

What is the red light for?

Keeping your eyes adjusted to the dark, reading in a tent without waking anyone, and drawing fewer insects than white light does on a coastal evening.

Is it waterproof enough for the rains?

IP66 covers dust and heavy rain, which is more than most lamps at this size. It is not for swimming.

How long will a set of batteries last?

It depends heavily on the mode. At 4 lumens it runs for a very long time; at 210 lumens expect a few hours. Most people use the middle settings and change batteries rarely.

Will it fit a child?

Yes, the band adjusts down and at 47 g there is nothing to weigh a small head down. It is the lamp most parents buy two of.

How do I stop the batteries corroding?

Take them out if the lamp will sit unused for months. Alkaline cells left in anything in this climate will eventually leak and ruin the contacts.
