Highlights

Gauge is the decision

Everything about a badminton string comes down to how thick it is. Thin bites the shuttle harder, feels sharper and sounds better - and breaks sooner. Thick lasts. At 0.63 mm, the Exbolt 63 is the liveliest and sharpest-feeling of the three, and the quickest to break.

0.63 mm gauge

The number that decides feel and life. Thinner bites harder and breaks sooner; thicker lasts longer.

High-intensity nylon multifilament core

Many fine filaments rather than one solid strand, which is what gives a string its bite and its repulsion.

Forged Fiber outer

Yonex-s braided outer construction, for the snap that gets the shuttle off the string bed quickly.

10 m set

Sized for one racket. Made in Japan.

Product description

About this product

Exbolt 63 Badminton String – in stock at 361 Degrees Adventure in Dar es Salaam.

The Exbolt 63 is one of three gauges in Yonex-s Exbolt family, and choosing between them is the single most useful decision you can make about your racket after choosing the racket itself.

Strings matter more than most club players believe. The frame decides balance and swing weight; the string decides what actually happens at the moment of contact – how much the shuttle sinks into the bed, how fast it comes off, how much control you have on a soft net shot, and how the racket sounds. Changing string is the cheapest real change you can make to how a racket plays.

Gauge is the main lever. At 0.63 mm this one is the liveliest and sharpest-feeling of the three, and the quickest to break. A thinner string has less material between the shuttle and the frame, so it deforms further, grips harder and springs back faster – more feel, more bite, a sharper sound. It also has less material to wear through where the mains and crosses saw against each other, which is why thin strings break.

The construction is a high-intensity nylon multifilament core – many fine filaments bundled rather than a single solid strand, which is what lets a string stretch and recover – inside Special Braided Forged Fiber.

Yonex publish tension limits on rackets, not on strings, so string to what your frame allows. For most club players in Tanzania, 22 to 24 lb is the sensible window, and heat here bleeds tension out faster than it does in cooler places.

Questions

Good to know

Which Exbolt should I choose?

Thinner strings bite the shuttle harder and feel sharper but break sooner. 63 is the thinnest and liveliest, 68 the thickest and most durable, 65 the middle. If you break strings often, go thicker. If you never break a string, go thinner and enjoy the feel.

How long does a badminton string last?

For a club player, a few months; for someone who plays several times a week and smashes hard, weeks. But strings also die without being played - tension bleeds out over time, and heat and humidity here speed that up. A racket strung six months ago is soft whether you used it or not.

What tension should it be strung at?

Follow the racket, not the string. Yonex publish maximum tensions on the frame, not on the string, and the frame is what fails. For most club players here 22 to 24 lb gives the best combination of power and forgiveness.

Why do thin strings break so much faster?

Less material to wear through. A 0.63 mm string has noticeably less cross-section than a 0.68 mm one, so the same friction at the crossings cuts through it sooner. It is a straight trade of feel against life.

Can I have my racket strung with this?

Yes - tell us the racket and the tension you want and we will arrange it. If you are not sure of the tension, tell us how you play and we will advise; the frame maximum is the one number we will not go past.

Does a full set string more than one racket?

No. A 10 m set is sized for one racket. Reels of 200 m exist for clubs and stringers who do several rackets at a time - ask us if that is what you need.

Should I keep a spare set?

Yes, if you play regularly. Strings break at the worst moment and always on the day you are playing. A spare set in the bag means a restring rather than a lost week.

Do you deliver in Dar es Salaam?

Yes. We deliver across Dar es Salaam and ship nationwide to Arusha, Mwanza, Dodoma, Zanzibar and beyond. You can also collect from our shop.
