This is a freestanding punching ball: a speed ball on an adjustable column standing on a weighted base you fill with water or sand.
It is worth being clear about what a speed ball trains, because people buy them expecting the wrong thing. It is not a power tool – you cannot hit a speed ball hard and you would not want to. What it trains is rhythm, timing, hand speed, and the habit of keeping your hands up in front of your face, which is where a boxer-s guard lives. Wear wraps and light bag gloves. Speed ball work is repetitive and done bare-knuckle it takes the skin off the first two knuckles quickly.
