The 2500R is the bigger of Noeby two jigging reels, and the reason to choose it over the 1500R is depth and current. In 100 metres of water with a tide running you need heavier jigs, thicker braid and more drag, and all three point to this reel: 25 kg of maximum drag, 400 metres of PE 3 on the spool, and 532 grams of machined aluminium to carry it.
The construction argument is the same as the smaller reel, scaled up. The frame and side plates are machined from a single piece of aluminium rather than assembled from castings, so there is no joint to work loose under the repeated hard strokes that jigging involves. The drag is a carbon stack with deliberately oversized discs, which matters because a jigging fight heats a drag quickly – a larger disc area spreads that heat, so the pressure you set at the start of a run is what you still have at the end of it. Eight ball bearings and a roller carry the 5.2:1 gearing.
Off Dar es Salaam this is the reel for the deeper drop-offs and offshore pinnacles, the Mafia channel and the banks – amberjack, big grouper, dogtooth tuna, jobfish and kingfish. It is more reel than the inshore reef edges need; the 1500R covers those.
The handle is a single power handle with a soft machined EVA knob. The hand is fixed at manufacture – R means right-hand retrieve, and the left-hand version is a separate item.
