Every baitcaster has a braking system to manage that, and almost all of them are mechanical: centrifugal weights or magnets set before the cast, a compromise between distance and safety that is wrong for at least half your casts.
Digital Control is Shimano answer. A microcomputer inside the sideplate samples spool speed a thousand times every second and applies braking only at the moments the spool is about to outrun the lure. The practical effect is that you can cast into a headwind, or throw a light lure, or cast badly, and the reel sorts it out. For anyone learning a baitcaster it removes most of the learning curve; for anyone experienced it means casting at full commitment rather than at 80 per cent.
The rest of the reel is built to match. A HAGANE one-piece metal body keeps the frame from flexing so the gears stay aligned under load. MicroModule gears use more, finer teeth for a retrieve with no grain to it. X-SHIP supports the pinion on bearings at both ends. The Cross Carbon drag gives a wide, smooth range up to 5 kg. At 8.5:1 it returns 91 cm per crank, which is fast.
