About this product
Almost all of a jig head is lead, and lead costs very little. What separates a good jig head from a bad one is the hook – whether it is sharp out of the packet, whether it holds that point after contact with rock, and whether it straightens when a decent fish puts its head down.
The Legend uses a Japanese high carbon steel hook, chemically sharpened, with a multilayer plating process rather than a single coat. Layered plating is what keeps a hook from blooming with rust after two sessions in salt water, which is the practical difference on this coast.
It is made in 7 g with a 1/0 hook, and 10 g with either a 1/0 or a 2/0. Body lengths are 37 mm, 37.5 mm and 40.5 mm respectively, four to a bag. These are light heads – finesse and shallow work, or a slow fall in calm water, rather than deep water and current.
Rig a soft plastic nose-first, threaded along the body with the point out through the back so the bait sits straight. Around Dar es Salaam these suit jetties, creek mouths and the rocks for queenfish, snapper, grunter and small trevally; inland they cover tilapia, bass, perch and small tigerfish.
