Highlights

Guides are what break

Rods almost never snap in a car. What actually happens is a guide gets knocked out of line or the insert cracks - and a cracked insert cuts braid all season.

Protects the guides

The part that actually gets damaged in transit, and the part that ruins line when it does.

Two sizes

Medium 90-120 cm, large 100-135 cm - sized for different rod sections.

Adjustable fit

Straps or elastic bands that hold the sleeve snug so nothing shifts.

Quick on and off

Designed to be fitted and removed in seconds rather than fiddled with.

Product description

About this product

Ask around and almost nobody has snapped a rod in a car. What people have done is knock a guide out of alignment, crack a guide insert, or wear a groove in one – and a cracked or grooved insert will cut braid on every cast for the rest of the season, usually without you understanding why your line keeps failing.

A rod sleeve prevents all of that. It wraps the blank and the guides, holds the sections together so they do not rattle against each other, and keeps the rod from being knocked directly against whatever else is in the boot.

It also keeps the rod tidy. A rod with the sleeve on can be picked up, carried and put down without the tip finding a door frame – which is how a great many tips are actually broken.

Two sizes are made: medium for 90 to 120 cm and large for 100 to 135 cm, with adjustable straps so the fit is snug on the rod you own.

It is protection in transit and storage, not a rod tube. For flights and rough travel, use a hard tube – we stock those.

Questions

Good to know

What does it actually protect against?

Guide damage, mostly. Rods rarely snap in a car; what happens is a guide gets knocked out of line or its insert cracks, and a cracked insert cuts braid on every cast afterwards.

Which size do I need?

Medium for rods whose sections fall between 90 and 120 cm, large for 100 to 135 cm. Measure your longest section with the rod broken down and tell us the figure.

Does it replace a rod tube?

No. A sleeve protects against knocks and keeps things tidy in a car or a boat. For flights or rough travel, use a hard rod tube - we stock those.

Can I use it on a one-piece rod?

It will cover a section of the blank and guides, but a one-piece rod really needs a full-length sleeve or tube. Tell us the rod and we will advise.

Will it fit a rod with a reel attached?

Generally not, and it is better practice to take the reel off for transport anyway. A reel left on a rod in a car boot is exactly how bail arms get bent.

How do I look after it?

Rinse salt off, dry it, and store it out of the sun. Check the straps and elastic - UV degrades elastic faster than anything, and a sleeve that will not stay snug does not protect anything.

Should I put a wet rod in it?

Rinse and dry the rod first. A damp sleeve against a reel seat and guide frames in this heat encourages corrosion at exactly the fittings you want to protect.

Do you deliver outside Dar es Salaam?

Yes, we ship nationwide. Tell us your location and we will quote transport.
