About this product

The TW series is built for people who want the fridge to work in more than one place. It runs from a vehicle, from mains at home or at a lodge, or from an optional detachable battery when there is neither. The door reverses, so it opens the sensible way whether it is in a boot, a kitchen or a tent porch.

Cooling is by compressor with two independent zones, set on the unit or from a phone. The TW45 holds 45.6 litres (48 quarts).

Good to know

Why is the TW55 capacity not listed exactly?

Alpicool publishes a confirmed 45.6 litre figure for the TW45 and we have not been able to verify the TW55 figure from Alpicool directly. Rather than print a number we cannot stand behind, ask us and we will confirm from the unit in stock.

Will it run off my car battery overnight?

Compressor fridges draw far less than people expect, but a car battery is not a leisure battery. Run it from the car while driving, and from mains or a leisure battery when parked. Most units have low-voltage cut-off to protect the starter battery, but do not rely on it for a whole night.

Can it freeze as well as chill?

Yes, down to the stated minimum. In practice, freezing draws more power and takes longer in Tanzanian ambient heat than the rated figures suggest.

Where should it sit in the vehicle?

Somewhere with air around the vents. A compressor fridge boxed in with no airflow will run constantly and still not reach temperature.

How noisy is it?

A compressor cycles on and off, so you hear it start and stop rather than a constant hum. It is quieter than a domestic fridge but it is not silent.

Will it work in 35 degree heat?

Yes, but it works harder and draws more power. Keep it out of direct sun, put a shade over it if it sits in a vehicle, and pre-chill the contents rather than asking it to cool warm drinks from scratch.

What power cables does it come with?

Ask us to confirm exactly what is in the box of the unit we have in stock, since the DC and AC leads vary by model and batch.

Do I need to let it settle after transport?

Yes. Stand it upright for a few hours before switching on after it has been laid over, the same as any compressor appliance.
